builder said it had big cam. dont no if he missed figured it. just looking for suggestions. thanks.

you may have a good cam, but it may be timed wrong to your engine. You may have the wrong cam timed right. You may have the right cam timed right but a terrable match of a carb, manifold or a verry poor cylinder head.

We can sit on the internet and speculate, but none of it will do any good as we have no hard evidence of what you have.

There's only one thing to do in your situation. Take the head off the engine and degree the cam. I'm not going to explain any of it here, as it sounds like you will need help with it or take the engine to someone who can do this.

Now a good cam grinder can take your specs, use their experience and their software and come up with a grind for your specific engine combination takeing into account the connecting rod ratio, dispalcement of the engine, rocker ratio, valve sizes, carb, head specs speed at which you wish to run the engine at, etc.

I don't know where you live, but it sounds like you have a decent shortblock assembly. Find someone who is familular with this kind of work and work with them.

Or just call Barney and order a cam from him and make sure it's installed right....... you won't be far off from perfect by doing so.

(quoted from post at 18:09:54 12/22/11) I have a cam ground by ron iskyderian for a big cube allis $200 ship to you.
Your cam probably needs to be advancedmove it one tooth counter clockwise to see if it helps. i do not like doing that way . i would rather use chevy degree bushings to be precise to 106 centerline on a big cube engine but you will know what to tell your grinder if you choose a custom cam grind . you also need to play with valve lash so you can tell him what your running also. i ran tighter intake lash and opened the exhaust lash because my heads flowed to well on the exhaust and when the exhaust flows over 80 percent of the intake then torque falls off.
