Carb dripping

on the Oliver 1600 I just purchased the carb drips. The guy I bought it from states that he was told to bend the float arm slightly downward.
He also stated the carb was fully rebuilt, he sent it in somewhere and had it done to factory specs.

He made it sound that this was routinely done on rebuilds. Is this a common fix ??
 
Where is your drip comming from, is it comming out of the hose that attaches to the carb inlet? I would say your needle and seat are not shutting off the fuel flow 100%. I always though the 1600 was a good tractor, but I would perfer a disel 10 to one over a gas. Also do you have a serial number? For and in the 1964 model year many small changes were made. Also scroll down a page or so and see the discussion on the little clip on the viton seats used in some needle and seat kits. J.
 
Thanks found the thread with "viton" in it ... it talked about copper reacting with the viton tipped needle somehow and degrading it.
Thanks for the info will check the numbers later today if I get out there before dark(away from home) My dad had a 1650D and loved it.
 
My 1600 was doing that when I got it and I couldn"t stop it. I had an electric in line shut off here off of a New Idea 701 Uni Harverter that I had scraped out. I put that in the gas line and hooked it up to the wire from the ignition switch to the coil so it opens when I turn the key on. Works perfect.
 
It is most likely just the bowl needle not seating. You may be able to get a generic needle from another carb kit to use that has a rubber tip. Another option is to carefully take a small drill bit, and by hand just spin it on the seat to more or less resurface it. Try and match the angle though. You should be able to separate the carb cases, blow in the inlet, and be able to stop the airflow when the bowl is raised. If there is still air passing the needle, the bowl will overfill and leak. The first thing I would do though is to smack it with something like the handle of a screwdriver. It may knock some dirt off the tip and seal it right up!
