Carburetor Stuck Float

The float on my Carburetor for my 51 Farmall H seems to get stuck more times than I think normal. It was rebuilt by a very good Farmall mechanic. Lets say that the carburetor WAS rebuilt correctly, with correct parts... could there be another reason the float gets stuck? I am no mechanic, but can basically maintain the tractor well enough. I know that a Rebuilt Carb is available, is this something to consider... or a Last option. Thanks.

I should probably test for spark. It is a 6v with a starter. How do I test for spark? Remove a plug wire and then?

check the pin that holds the float in, if it moves too easy, squeeze the retainer a little to firm it up. also, the float itself is a pretty tight fit in the fuel bowl. be sure the float is not rubbing on the side of the carb bowl. last, check the bowl gasket. some gaskets are a little wide and sit in the bowl a little too far, and the float will catch on it.

i use a spare sprk plug and lay it on the engine so it has a good ground, then crank the engine over to see the spark.

What is happening... needle valve not closing and carb runs over, or needle valve sticks shut when machine sits for awhile = no gas in carb = no start?

When I try to start it, and it doesn't start, gas drips out of the carb. It floods. It started excellent until yesterday, no flooding, no dripping. I have not removed the carb. I am just guessing that it is the float.

Guessing does nothing for you but have you scratching your head. Check things like this. Turn off the gas at the sediment bowl. Then pull the drain plug out of the bottom of the carb. Find a can or jar etc to catch gas in. Turn the gas back on and let it flow for say 5 minutes or till your catch can is almost full. Turn it off and look in that gas for stuff like dirt and rust. Doing that may clear up your problem if the cause was dirt in the needle seat. Then give it a try and see if it starts. If not check for spark but pulling the center wire from the cap and hold it close to metal on the engine and spin it over

You may just be choking it too much.

Maybe the float has a leak in it. Put it next to your ear and shake it, if you can hear gas sloshing around inside it's bad.
