Hey Case guys,
How good of a tractor is a Case 1390 with mfwa? Is this a Case design or a David Brown design? Is the mfwa reliable? Tractor Data says they were made only 4 years 1980 - 83, was there a problem? Did they all have a 12f 4r transmission? Any information you could give me would be appreciated.
Thanks
Phil

Still a David Brown as far as I know. The 1394 replaced it and ran from 1983 to 1990 and was pretty much the same tractor. You had to get to a 1490 to get a power shift trans.

Case 1390 was still the David Brown design. There were 2 types of 4wd axles fitted: either the DB axle or Carraro one. Both are strong. The block, crank, pistons, etc were the same used from the 995 model, so there was never a problem with this model.

Thanks for the info. How slow would that 12 speed transmission go? i drove a David Brown once that had 3 shift levers, 3 speed & R, hi & lo, and a fast and slow. In 1st lo slow it crept along very slowly.

Started out as the 1200, gradually updated through to the 1210, 1390 and then as the 1394 in its final form. It should have a Carraro axle under it, the D.B. axle needed a small country to turn round in and parts are difficult for the DB axle. Hydrashift was available, as it was on the 1200 series, (1212) but maybe not for all markets. Solid old tractor, but almost out of date when the range came out.

For more info on the David Brown designs you could do worse than a visit to the DB club site, or contact the Canadian David Brown club at [email protected]

My experience of the 90 series Case machines was generally positive, but they aren't the easiest machine on earth to change a clutch in (the clutch kits weren't too cheap either). The cab was a huge improvement over earlier designs.

Cheers, JV.

You would have to move to the newer tractors that have a creeper transmission, some will reduced at a ratio of about 10 to 1. A caseomatic tractor may work for you. Some models are 400B, 600B, 530's and 630's.

Try a David Brown, My 1210 has 12 foward 4 reverse gears. If that's not slow enough they never made one! A real good tractor! Steve
