I bought this yesterday. Same guy had it that had my 660 combine. It was in too good of shape to pass up. His dad bought it new in '66. Came with a new set of knives, and apron chain. I plan to put it behind my 410.

Just don't open it up over the knives when they are turning. Have an uncle that did that, and darn near died. Still not sure how he did it.

Nice looking machine, have the identical machine in the shed. Looks like yours has the same damage on head that mine does. Found couple parts books on ebay, amazing the different heads that it could run. Scott

That chopper looks great! You didn't happen to get a hay head to? I suppose if you were to use it in hay you would want a 7 ft. windrow!!?? Anyways....That sounds like a great time with your 400 in front of it. You will have to post some pics of them in use. In heavy corn it would be fun to use a COM tractor!.....the possibilities are endless! Lol. Great find.

That is a great looking chopper! Good for you for saving it. Ralph Hays was dropped by Case in 1967 and became an IH dealer in Alderly,WI which is not much of a town anymore. I bought a few parts from him several years ago. He was still miffed at Case. Don

What a nice find! We had one just like it. I remember chopping straw with it, on the 770. I can't remember what went wrong chopping corn one year, but it was traded on a NH.

Is that a 6 knife on the flywheel? The ole C2 we had 4 knife. We had 3 growing up. I did not like em. We got a Gehl later, model unknown, that thing would really eat corn.
Starting the PTO on the C2 , It would start up fast, where the Gehl would take a take a bit. You knew it had more iron in it, but it was newer.
I tole my Ole Man many times with the Case, we are using a 1950's chopper to go thru early 80's corn. All three left the fence line last year, for scrap. as per my brother.

I have interviewed dozens of former Case dealers and the truth is I don"t know if you ever find out the real reason. I know that Case was in financial trouble all through the 60"s and maybe some people got wind of that and lost interest in selling Case equipment. Many Case dealers took on Oliver, some AC, some IH, probably depending on what line was available in their area. Case probably dropped them if they took on somebody else first. Also, there were many dealers operating pretty shabby operations (financial wise) with poor records, credit, etc. I think Ralph had a pretty successful business though. Don

That is a beauty, wow like to give that guy a pat on the back for keeping her stored for you before you bought it.Please post pics of when you get her in the field.
Thanks for posting.

Wonderful Pic!!! Does that ever bring back memories!! My dad had a C2 for years. I remember dry chopping straw for bedding one time with his 70 JD diesel on it and the old 2 banger said ENOUGH! ... It broke the crank and shot the pulley clutch cover about 300 yards off to the side of the tractor! He traded the C2 for a 212 in the early 70's. He always said that was the best cutter he ever had... ended up wearing her out completely in 76 when all we did all year was cut anything and everything for feed because of the drought... By then, he was running a 4010 JD on her and we cut feed from July to November that year for us and several others... He traded the next year for a new 300... And wished for years he hadn't. We had lots of trouble with that 300 and soured my dad on case cutters..
