Case 310 backhoe shuttle shift fluid.

I had what looked like old 90 weight come out, and it was not pretty. Maybe a pint. I think i am supposed to put a few gal. in it and it needs to meet allison-3, but all i can find in the auto section is allison-4, in a red dextron transmission fluid. i am supposing that it has been superseded by 4 because it is a higher number. But in the service manual, it is not clear at all to me. Just the amount. I can not remember where i saw the specs on the fluid. I also called TSC and they did not know what I was talking about. Can someone tell me where and what to buy? I don't think i am suppose to put more 90 weight back in, but i can understand why someone would when it is so time consuming trying to find what to put in.

The owner's manual for my 310B utility (backhoe/loader) says 13 qts of SAE 90 EP mutli-purpose lubricant for the transmission case. The 311B (case-o-matic) requires 6 gallons

I've got to learn to re-read my posts. What I should have said is the 311 is the GP tractor, and as we all know the 400's are the case-o-matics

Will have to buy another 5 gal of 80/90 then, because both shuttle shift and trans. have same fluid in them. Unlike finding the shuttle shift drain, I tried to find the drain plug for the transmission and could not find one, so i added fluid, and now it looks funny when i check the level. I am thinking water was in the bottom and now it is mixing. Is there a secret to draining it?

I have a round nose 300, I am sorry, it was late last night, and it is a new machine to me. My FIRST tractor. Is the fluids both the same?

I do have a 310, the manual confused me because it says 300 on the front. someplace on this forum i saw case TCH or equivalent of Allison C-3 for the shuttle shift, and I saw where that was dextron transmission fluid, so I now find that it is 90 weight, which i was told by a shop i can put 80/90 it is the same thing. Just wanted to verify this, as there is nothing but volume in my service manual.

The shuttle section took TCH originally and is now superseded by HTU, Hytran Ultra. It was never designed for 90 weight lubes. The rear transmission, the 4 speed section takes 90 wt.

This holds true for all the units that Case had mechanical shuttles in.

wow, i stirred up some comments. I am truly going thru a learning
curve. One person goes strictly by the bible, and the other knows
how it works and the 90 probably would not hurt the shuttle, but
was never officially recommended. Ultimately, i will have to take
someone's word. I wonder how long this thing has been running
dry, I bet 10 yrs.
