case 310B brakes

I'm working on my recently acquired 310B.
My question is how to set the brake on it?
It has two brake pedals, one seems to go to a lever towards the back, I'm thinking it is supposed to lock the brake pedal down somehow, but it is broken or missing something.
Any help appreciated, can't use it until this is fixed/figured out.
 
The brake pedal on the right should have a flat piece of steel about 6" long that is notched that you hook on the floor plate for the parking brake. It attaches to the brake pedal with a single rivet that it rotates on. If I"m understanding you correctly the rod that goes toward the back is the actuation rod which works the brakes. There would be one on the left side of the tractor as well. These rods don"t lock.

That rod (Part number G10764) extending rearward should be connected to a lever (G10765) extending up through the step plate adjacent to the brake housing. The lever is held in place by a spring (G10707) below the step plate. The 200B and early 430s had a lever on the brake peddle like Stephan described. The other models had the assembly depicted below. - Joe

While we are on the brakes. How or where can I get the correct sprins for the brake & clutch pedals?

Also do many of you find the bbrakes on a 300 inadaquate?
 
Stephen, the small piece of metal you mention is to lock the pedals together for highway transport sort of. Left/right pedals control their respective wheels help make sharp turns, especially with a narrow front as you can turn the steering wheel all the way, lock the respective pedal with your foot and pivot the tractor on one rear wheel.

The pictures Joe sent show the 200B, 430,530 and 630 parking brake lock. That is what most of us thought you were talking about. Usually when I put it on in my shop I lock the pedals together, in the field I lust lock the left brake to keep it from rolling while I get off to do something.

To lock the left brake (or both if the pedals are locked together) depress the left brake pedal, reach back and pivot the lever shown in the photo forward and it moves the rod shown to lock the pedal in place via the sharp ratchet part just behind the peadl into the ratchet grooves on the brake pedal itself.

The piece of metal I was referring to was the parking brake for the 200 series like Joe Young showed a photo and not the piece of metal connecting the pedals. The book I have suggested the 200 series and the 310 had the same parking brake. From this incorrect information I assumed he had the same parking brake as my 210B and it was a mistake for me to get involved and give advise. I will try to do better in the future.
 
Stephen, you"re doing just fine. We all make mistakes, mostly just from miss-reading the post we are replying to or assuming something that appears perfectly reasonable.

J Garner is an experience tractor person, long time poster and it is also obvious he miss-read your post.

I like it here and I"m going to continue to participate. I just need to be more careful and when I look up something thats a little vague I need to post it that way.
At least from seeing this thread I understand now why my tractor has notches on the left pedal that does nothing.

Sorry guys, I also missed the detail on the last picture Joe posted with the lever on the right pedal!

We all learned something new on this one and that is what this forum is all about.

thanks, I went under it today and sure enough it has a little wedge that locks that pedal down.
It just isn't a very positive locking feel with your foot when I move the lever, but it does stop it from rolling, so I guess good enough, and it isn't broken.

BTW, after removing some paint, it has a 530 on the hood, so I guess this is a 530 not a 310b.
