Case Folk:

I grew up with Olivers and Farmall . ( So I know them best.) A seemingly good 1956 Case 400 has just been listed in the photo ads.

What are these tracs reputation for reliability ? Are parts readily available ? Does the 400 have IPTO ? Eagle Hitch or three point ?

My father has owned a 400 gas since the early 70"s. It has been a great tractor. It does have IPTO, Eagle Hitch, remote hydraulics, 8 sp fwd & 2 rev gear transmission. Power steering was an option. Parts availability shouldn"t be an issue. We all liked our dad"s 400 so much that my brother and I both bought one for ourselves. I"s highly recommend it.

My 400 (401) diesel is my favorite tractor, period. The Case three-point, which is the Eagle hitch, was an option, so the one you're looking at might or might not have one. I think the independent PTO was standard. I've not had trouble getting parts.

Great tractor,have a "411" on my loader,its a gas,what is this one? Love to have a diesal,and have found on,havent made a deal yet

Wow , fellows:

Looks like the 400 is a great one. Not too many Cases were sold in my neck of Kajun-Land when I was a kid in the 50s .

Thanks for the kind feedback.

I have a 401 diesel with 6700 hrs on the hour meter and the hour meter hasn't worked in 30 years. The only gripe I have is parts in my area are hard to find and in the winter the old diesel is hard starting without plugging it in. Otherwise it is a strong, trouble free tractor.

Yup, I have the 410 my grandpa bought new in May of "56. Over 22,000 hours, three sets of brakes, one PTO rebuild, and one set of rear tires. Thats it. You cant get a better tractor built in the 50s in that 55 hp size. Very dependable. I have yet to have a parts problem with it. Most things are available, and what isnt, the 700/30 or 800/30 parts can often be used. If there is a drawback, it is only that the parts are a little more costly than "red" parts. IMO, the best tractor that Racine built.
