Hello, I"m helping a couple of friends rebuild a 1959-1960 case 420b with the torque convertor drive. My question is what fluid should we use for the drive and how much does it take. We had to rebuild the motor and when we pulled the motor some fluid came out, but we are not sure of what exactly it was. I"ve been searching the internet for a while looking for the specs for fluid for the tractor, but haven"t found much other than either 10 or 5 weight motor oil or tranny fluid.
I"m just wondering what should we put in it and how much?

I run Case HY-TRAN fluid in my 420B,book calls for 16 quarts. to check fluid have engine idling, add oil through fill plug opening until fluid reaches full mark on dipstick. note; I also use this same fluid in rear end,and hydraulic system.

Hi Tom,
Kirk In kansas,
Tom,,, can you get me the name and address of the man and his son that got the MM Combine?
Id like to talk to them and when they get it done i want some shots of it ok,
hope things are going good up there where you are,
Talk to ya later ok,
Kirk,

Tom, May I add that I fill runnng also, but the tranny in 4th gear, brakes locked or machine so it cannot move. That "freezes" the drive train and stops oil splash so an accurate fill can be attained. That is the recommended procedure in later series and it makes sense for these units also. Hy Tran Ultra is my choice also. Seasons Greetings, mEl

Now that is using your head thanks for the great
tip, I use it the next time I fire up the little
420B. TIS THE SEASON TO BE JOLLY! and helpful too
thanks again Tom
