Case 430

Yesterday I was looking at a 430 Case tractor for sale near me. The serial number plate on the instrument panel read 430-L serial number starting with 657. It
was a diesel with a triple range, no powder steering. On here where you can check serial numbers for the year built there is no listing for this number
sequence. What am I looking at?

Serial numbers starting with 6 mean its a Rock Island built tractor but production there ended in 1961 with a serial number of 6172550. The 430 was made from 1960 to 1969. From 1962 and after the numbers began with an 8.

I went back today and cleaned up the tag really good and the number is a 1 with a lot of scratches. Early 1960 tractor and he said that it was built in 69 according to the dealer he purchased it from 3 years ago. I burst his balloon today.
