CASE 440

I purchased a Case 440 tractor and have not had much luck trying to figure out what the difference is between a Case 430 and the 440, I ordered manuals but they all reference 430.

If someone can help me It would be greatly appreciated

440 is a gas 430, 430 is diesel. Add a C, 430C, 44C and its a Case-O-Matic. Forget what adding the 1 means;ie, 431 441. Maybe someone else will refresh my memory.

a fellow down the road has a G430 and it's gas. I don't know for sure but as near as I can tell it has 148 CID engine and right now he can't keep a starter drive in it. bjr

The 440 on your tag tells us what you have.
It will still say 430 on your hood decal.
The first number refers to the size tractor.
The second number refers to what fuel.
The third number refers to what wheel configuration.
A 440 on the tag is a 430 series tractor, gas engine, utility wheel configuration.
A 431 is a 430, diesel, rowcrop.
So for example, say you had a 530, gas, rowcrop, the tag would read 541.
Most ops manuals and parts books will cover both engines and wheel configurations. Your serial number is more important to get the right book in reference to power steering, axle styles, 3pt hitch, transmissions and other things that were changed over the years.

I forgot to mention that what J. said about adding a C after the number means case-o-matic was right only you won't find a 430 with COM as it is a decendent of the 200B. Only the 530-830 had the COM in the 30 series. Also if you find an H after your number, it has a special high speed road gear.

Not to be smart here, but are you sure you don't have a 400B? They are very similar in size and style. Very often I see them for sale with the wrong 430 decals on the hood. I don't know much about the B series if they had a "C" after the number or not on a 400B tag. A 400B/gas/rowcrop might read 441 on the tag without the C as a 400B was only made as a COM in the first place and no need to tag it as such.
Again I don't know that for sure, but I do know the 300B 12 speed and 400B COM were combined and became the 530 with COM as an option, not a 430.

Howdy JGARNER,
The last number denotes type of tractor i.e.: General purpose, Utility, Western Special, Orchard/Grove/Vineyard. In this case(no pun intended) the Zero would make it a Utility tractor.

There were no 430 versions w/ C.O.M.

I have a 430 440 8174538.

Need oil pump, pan gasket and torque spec on front main bearing cap/oil pump bolts.

Any help?
