case 450 dozer

Do you mean that you cannot pump grease into the adjuster or you are getting grease in but it is not moving the idler,if it"s the later that"s happening the seal inside the adjuster has failed and you will need to reseal,if you cannot get the grease in the filler valve is blocked and will need cleaning, take out the whole valve and then remove the zerk, never undo the zerk if there is any pressure on the adjuster,a couple of turns and it can let go like a bullet if for example the track was riding the idler or sprocket, the valve has two sets of threads so it cannot blow out.

AJ i not shure if i am getting grease to the adjuster.it does not move at all. i started to take the cover off but stop when i thought there was a spring that could pop out. i do not have a service book to see what is behind the cover.

To change the seal you will need to split the track by taking out the master pin,it will be the pin that differs from the rest, with the track split the idler can be pulled out, take out the piston and replace the seal, you can have a look at the online parts at the link below, click the link.page opens, click North America English another page opens,on the top bar click search for parts, another page opens, type in 450 and click search, all the options with 450 in them will show, find yours and then track adjuster.

When you put the grease gun on the zerk fitting is it just $h1tt1ng out around the zerk fitting?
If it is CAREFULLY CAREFULLY CAREFULLY remove the zerk fitting VERY slowly to ease the pressure out. I had to remove the zerk fitting once while it was under pressure and I wore safety glass under my full face shield with heavy leather gloves with a heavy cloth over my hands and zerk fitting with my body working behind a metal plate (it was a scrap piece from in the the shop) and when i turned it SLOWLY grease came out from the threads of the fitting and i let it sit to let the grease out. Then i SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY removed it all the way.
I changed the fitting and haven't had a problem since.
BE CAREFUL!!
