Case 530 - Reliable tractor???

Hello. I've noticed an add in my area for a Case 530 tractor. Doesn't give alot of info. Can someone tell me if they're a reliable tractor or not? Live PTO? Single or dual range trans?? Thank you!

I bought one last fall. S/N 8327977.
It was dirty, but it has now gotten a lot nicer looking after a cleaning with a hot water cleaning system (rented). It has dual speed ranges, hydrostatic power steering (light as a feather), independent PTO, runs strong and starts easily.
I have a contact near Edmonton Alberta, CA who has torn one all the way down and is very gracious with his advice.

It could have a Case-o-matic transmission. They can be expensive to repair. The 30 series was a very good line of tractors.

What do you consider reliable ? That machine is at least 40 years old and depending on its treatment AND your mechanical ability it could be very reliable or a money pit. Gas or diesel? Construction King or farm series, will determine the trans.

The 430/530 series of Case tractors are very reliable. They were manufactured from 1960-1969 with "Bullet-Proof" 4 cylinder engines that included a 188 ci diesel (430 & 530), 148 ci Gas (430), 159 ci Gas (530). The 530 also had an LP gas version. The transmissions available included a 4 speed, an 8-speed, an 8-speed with a shuttle, and a 12 speed. Most were made with dry clutches, however, the 530 was available with a Case-o-matic drive. They were made in three versions Standard, General Purpose, and LCK (low profile). They early 1960-1963 variants had the Eagle Hitch, and the later models had a category 1 draft-o-matic 3-point hitch. A 630 model (essentially a 530 with a few more horsepower) was made from 1960-1963. When the larger 70 series tractors were introduced in 1969/1970, the 430 and 530 were renamed to 470s and 570s. At that time they were equipped with alternators (earlier models all had generators), and underwent a few other minor (mostly cosmetic) changes. The series was discontinued in 1972/73, and was replaced with the David Brown series of tractors that Tennaco bought. What a mistake............

As you can see there were many, many variations. There were additional possibilities like grove fenders, 1 and 2 wheel narrow front ends, three or four different wide front ends, standard or independent PTO, differential locks, at least three different seats, etc.

I completed a 430 restoration a couple of years ago, and began restoring a 570 this winter. They are great little tractors with many parts still available through Case. The only downside is there are fewer people making after market parts than say for the Red or Green brands.

If that 530 is in a reasonable condition, you should grab it before someone else does!!
