Case 585 loader hookup

I have been researching a loader valve / SCV problem on my Dads 1990 Case 585 which has the OE power beyond block on it. The loader is a Kelly loader with the hydraulic supply plumbed into the port right behind the port that the front part of tube #38 is connected to on the power beyond block. The return is plumbed into a port on the bottom of the transmission housing. This is how it was set up when he purchased it new. The SCV had to be in the up position for the loader to work and I recently found out the SCV will not raise anything unless the loader bucket valve is deadheaded in the up position (easiest valve position to deadhead). In the hope that the loader and SCV would finally function separately and based on a post by Jimb2 on Jun 12, 2010, I removed the auxiliary valve tube #38 and capped the 2 open ports. The loader valve now functions without the SCV in the up position. However the SCV still will not work unless the loader bucket valve is deadheaded. I have looked at hydraulic schematics for hydraulic valves and how power beyond is plumbed in and cannot figure out how the Case 585 auxiliary hydraulics is set up especially since the power beyond block is next to the transmission and the SCV valve is after that. Nor can I figure out how to solve my problem. Can anyone help me out with what to do next? Thank you, Roger M.
 
I have not looked at the plumbing on our 574 which is an earlier version of your 585 I would think your power beyond block should be on the outside part of the stack away from the rear end/transmission case. It seems like ours is that way and we can use the remote in back or the loader independently of each other without having to do anything to one for the other to work.
 
Hi, does the Serial Number plate on your tractor say Made in USA on made in Doncaster, UK. I am only familiar with the tractors that came from Doncaster, UK. The crate units shipped to IH, USA and assembled usually had a different hydraulic setup under the seat and the loader setup had to be different.
From your description of how the loader was setup with the power beyond is different, could you please post a photo and see if there is any visible part number on the power beyond block.

Is it possible that you have a closed center hydraulic valve for your loader?
I know a closed center and open center valves dont play well or vise versa
 
I know the tractor was made in the UK. (I dont have a picture that I can easily put my hands on right now.)The hydraulics are essentially the same as shown for the 495. The loader supply line is currently connected to a straight fitting that is right behind the elbow shown on the 495 and Jeffs tractor. I was hoping the straight fitting and the elbow fitting were ported into the same channel in the power beyond block. But based on how the hydraulic works now the straight fitting is ported into supply pressure and the elbow fitting is the port that I would call the power beyond supply port (sorry, not up on all of the hydraulics lingo.) What I figured out after studying a hydraulics schematic I screenshotted from a power beyond hydraulics training video is my 2 handle loader valve and my 1 SCV valve are in parallel and not in series. By moving the supply line to the elbow fitting like is shown in Jeffs picture they will be in series like I believe a stacked SCV valve is. Jeffs picture should be the answer. So now I have to find the time to do it. It appears to be rather tricky without removing the seat platform. Is the seat platform easy to remove?
I didnt expect the quick responses to my post. That solves the mystery. I had been told that I needed to put a valve in the line to the loader to use the SCV which I thought was crazy since the tractor has a power beyond block. With the information I found on this forum and the replies to my first post on a forum I feel confident it will finally work correctly. You guys are great! Thank you very much.
I will provide an update when I get the supply line moved in the next week or so.
 
From what I have gathered from the online parts book the OE power beyond block was a mid-model introduction on the 585. For the early years of the 585, and I would assume the 574, you would have to add a power beyond block to the outside of the SCV valve stack. For the later years of the 585 the power beyond block was the first block in the SCV valve stack, which created a real puzzle on how to fix my problem since it didnt fit the normal convention. With Jimb2s reply I feel confident I can get my tractor plumbed so that it will function like yours. It is nice to know that it can actually work correctly. Thanks for the input.
 
I believe your theory is correct that on your tractor the Power beyond and the remote SCV are in parallel, so putting Ball type valve on the input of Loader valve would work but would be a PITA.
I have never seen a Power beyond that went on the inside of the valve stack, most are on the outside of the valve stack and there are several different Power beyonds and only certain part numbers work for the this series of IH Doncaster, UK tractors.
Re removing the deck plate, makes it easier if you have a helper although my brother has done it by himself.
Take the seat off first, then there is a rubber boot around the gear shift levers to remove, remove the panel where the SCV lever is, remove the knobs off the PTO and hydraulic levers.
See Jeff's photo there are 4 main bolts to the hydraulic housing but there are others on each side through from outside of fender and these can be a PITA if the tractor has been driven in road salt.
Then lift up and wiggle here and there, then off or stand it to the rear.
