Case 830 head interchange

I have a 831C with cracks in both heads. My neighbor has a 930 that he said I could have the heads off of. The casting number on my heads is A21003 and the casting number on his heads is A33616. I heard that the heads were the same on both but does anyone know if they actually are, and if not are there any other heads that would fit it.

They will work, but you need to check the rockers and the push rods for length. I have taken 1030 and 1200 heads off of 930s. I think 930 heads may not be as tall.

930 heads are the same as 730, 1030's are the same as 830. 1200 is different yet.

Good heads are getting tough to find. Might want to consider what cracked your heads and avoid the same problem next time. Overheating will crack those heads, as well as not cooling the engine down before shutting down, and Ether will also do it.

When you get it back together never shut it off hot. Year's ago when the 30 series was out I had a 1030 that was turned up and it ran real warm, but not extremely hot. I always run it for at least 10 to 15 minutes to cool it before shutting it off. It was a hard starter and had to use either to start it when it was cool, not a lot, just a small shot. I never had any heads crack. I did have to replace a couple of head gaskets though.

Better check the Neighbors casting numbers again. Looks like someone put 1030 heads on his 930. Sometimes the last 3 and 6 are hard to read.

My 830 has 930 heads, you have to use both, if I remember
right the 930 heads are about 1/8 of an inch shorter. You might
have to use the 930 rocker assemblies and push rods, just
compare the length of the push rods. Here's the difference
between the heights. Also the intake and exhaust ports are smaller on the 930 but that doesn't matter.

as others mentioned below the 730-930 are the same and the 830-1030 are the same.

I didn't think you could interchange them. Maybe you can. The trick would be if the head gaskets are the same. I thought the bolt patterns were different ?? so if the gaskets are the same between a 730 & 830 you can then watch for other changes like rocker arms ect. (i think they are the same)

A good way to tell all of this would be to go into the Case (new holland) CNH website for Ag products and go into the parts book section and compart part numbers between the 2. Good take off heads (not cleaned/magnafluxed) are at least $100/each.
