CASE 830 turd-o-matic DISKING

I have a 62 case 830 diesel with the caseomatic. It had been sitting in a barn for 12 years or so untouched until i aquired it last year. with a new battery,it started right up. changed the oil and fuel filters and it seems to run good with no smoke. I decided to give it a good workout yesterday and put it on the disk. I have a 13' white disk and tryed going over some plowed ground in low fourth, and it would BARELEY pull it with it only halfway in the ground. It wouldnt smoke at all until i went from 3/4 throttle to full throttle-then it black smoked like a pulling tractor... Am i asking to much out of it? or is something wrong here because i figured that is more than enough tractor to handle that disk! i even backed her down a gear and it still had a hell of a time.. Any suggestions?? oh i had it in direct drive and not case-omatic.

First place I would look is air filter. Then fuel.

I suggest you check the air inlet for restrictions. If that is okay, change the fuel filters.

Our 730 was like that the first day every year. We used it on the manure spreader every winter and I think it got gummed up from not running hard. The first day of spring plowing or discing we always had to start in 3rd gear for an hour or so and it would smoke even worse than normal before it would take it in 4th like usual. You could have the same thing here. Make sure the filters are all clean and there are no mouse nests or anything in there, then work it hard at full throttle. I'll bet after a few hours she will perk right up.

I have an 800 COM diesel and it pulls my 10' disk all the way in the ground in 4th in COM or direct. Maybe your clutches are glazed. How is the COM fluid?

I worked on a 930 for a neighbor that ran like that. The air tube between the precleaner and the air cleaner was 3/4 plugged. Easy fix, and ran like a top after cleaning.

I also have an 800 and a 12.5 foot Case WB disc. The
800 pulls it just fine.

The old girl hasn't run in 12 years, then you hitch it to a big disc and call it a turd without looking into any possible problems? Methinks you've misjudged a very fine tractor that needs some TLC.

You are probably right. Its probably is a complete turd, if you are located close to central Texas I would take it off your hands for scrap price, I will even come get it. I have been looking for an early 830 Case, eagle hitch turd.

A white/ oliver disc in plowed field that size would work the tar out of a 1030. Them are hard heavy pulling disc. We have a 14" IH 370 now. The 730 has no problem with it.
