Ive had a Case 970 powershift for a few months now. It has been very dependable until the other day. It was running fine, went to move it was in 3rd range 1st gear mashed the clutch to shift to reverse and it stopped harder than usual. It now will not move in reverse and very jumpy in 1st other gears it moves fine. Also when you crank it up tractor runs fine til transmission pressure gets to operating pressure then the motor seems to load up, if you bump it on into second or third it then runs fine. Any help is appreciated, we run mostly late model deeres and i dont know much about these tractors.

Most likely a sticky or stuck spool in the valve body. I assume it is under the plate under your feet like the 1070's. Remove valve body after cleaning all around it and remove spools one at a time and clean then move them in and out and spin them in the bore. That should cure the problem which was caused by another problem, either just plain dirty oil or a major internal malfunction. Change the filters and see if you have any large metal shavings. If not then it was just past time to change the filters.

my dad has a 970. bought 8 or 9 years ago. when we first got it you had to leave it sit running for a while to warm up so the powershift would work. we changed the fluid and filters 3 times the first year and that all cleared up.it would lock up and kill the engine if you tried to shift the powershift before it got warmed up. works like a charm now though. we use it on a 801 kuhn hay mower and a 315 brushhog. i always thought that the powershift would make it handy for loader work. our 970 is also very easy on fuel. good tractor!

Remember to remove the relief valve in bottom of filters before you discard old filters. Need to install in new filters

make sure that your remote valve levers are centered.dads 970's remotes are kind of sticky and they make some noise if they arent centered. probably the filters though.dont leave any stone unturned. we have done some pretty serious engine work before only to find out the problem was something pretty simple(like a dirty filter) good luck pc

Thanks for the advice, it had been sitting a while when I got it, my friend changed all the filters and oil. So Im going check those filters to see if they were installed correctly.
