Case carburetor issues

New to us case wasn't running great, wouldn't idle, rough running, needed half choke, pulled the carb off. Renee took it apart and soaked it in berrymans, then many trip through the hot ultrasonic cleaner. This brass tube was stuck. So.....she asked me to try and remove it. I of course twisted it off deep inside 😭. Two questions #1 How do we go about fixing this? #2 we have a pile of marvel carb parts , including a Ford carb bottom ( can tell by the choke linkage ball hook up) what is the difference in these carbs? No number on either one. I believe the case was or should have been a tsx 114. If we use the 'ford' carb bottom and the tractor runs good is there any reason not to run it.......all 2 hours a year😀. ..,. edit.....part 24 is what broke off. Threads are deep inside. In the 'ford' bottom that part has threads at the top. May not be an issue? 😔

As close as I can tell, MS had three basic sizes, then the rest of the differences were where the fuel and linkages connected for the specific tractor. So I think if an alternate piece fits, you should be OK, but post over on the Case board, Joe in Wa knows more about this than I.

Thank you 😊

About thirty some years ago I left my Case 300 carburetor parts in a parts washer to soak and someone picked up and threw away the very part you're looking for. A Ford 8N came to the shop and I copied the nozzle from it's carburetor, which was a MS, and made one. Same carburetor, just a little different linkage.

Bake the carb bottom @ 350º for a couple of hours and allow to cool, the broken brass part should extract EASILY at that point. You'll have to remove the choke return spring, which will require removing the choke shaft.

Shouldn't be hard to find a new main jet/nozzle, then the carb will be good as new with no mixing and matching of parts. Part # is 47-589.

As a matter of fact, I did the very same thing well over 20 years ago and looking for a new jet lead my to this site and I've been here ever since.

IIRC, I good a new jet/nozzle from CIH, McDonalds or Marks, or similar carb outfits discussed on here from time to time will probably have one.

Kevin, the advice from wore out works. I did the same mistake years ago. Not sure what other model carbs use that same part

If the bottom of the carb fits the top of the carb off the Case you should be able to make it work just fine. I have an Oliver 60 engine that had carb problems and the bottom is from an 8N Ford the the top from the carb that was on the Oliver 60

Kevin, that part still in there is 1/4-28 threads. Once you get it out, chase it with a tap, and then make sure the jet below it is clean and clear. I ended up drilling mine out and just chasing the threads to clean it up. If I had baked it, like WO says, it may have come easier. That was NOT fun. steve

Grandpa you can mix and match parts on these. But as others said the needle seat size venture and throat sizes can be different. Depending on the engine it can cause issues. It is good to take that tube out and clean it and all passages. You can get parts for these beyond basic gaskets but are pricy. I accumulated many parts over the years and you will too. Sometines you can dind parts ones on ebay. Yes i have had to do extensive welding or machining on them. If you have other questions ask

Just last week I fixed the exact same problem. I ended up having to drill the brass part out. The replacement tube was supposed to be the correct one but wasn’t, looked more like the ones used on Ford cards. I had to use a small o-ring to seal the top but was able to get the threaded part to hold. It’s held so far.

I wish I would have known about the oven treatment. Don’t know if it would have worked or not. Mine broke off three separate times and had to drill the 4th threaded section out.
