I have a 1952 case dc which I purchased a magneto on ebay and discovered it has clockwise rotation and will not work. Is there any way to change the rotation? What is the correct magneto I need?

Join the club. I thought the mag should rotate with the imput, but it dosn"t. All the mags I"ve seen reverse rotation. The first time I tried to time the engine I figured that out, the hard way!

This reminds me of the time I bought an IHC mag in a junkyard, put it on, and couldn't figure out why it would not work until I noticed it was for an MD that spins backwards!

if the impulse clicks then wire it accordingly 1-3-4-2, most mags have a reduction gear on the rotor which also reverses rotor rotation direction

I have the mag installed on a case dc and it backfires when trying to start. I brought the no.1 piston up on the compression stroke and rotated the mag to the no.1 position. Could the gear on the magneto be out of position. Is there marks on this gear to locate properly? I noticed it will pull out.

Super, I always get DC on #1 on compression stroke then back it up a good bit so I don't have to fight the impulse spring when I install the mag, Fire the mag on the #1 hole then back the mag up to reset it to #1 hole to fire again then install it. Then install the wires #1 cyl to #1 mag hole then 3-4-2 clockwise viewing the mag from the rear looking front. If it's backfiring it sounds like the mag's working, just out of time. mEl
