Case IH JX 70 JUNK

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT BUY CASE IH PRODUCTS. Four years ago, I decided to buy myself a nice, brand new tractor with a loader. I settled on a Case IH JX 70 FWA. For years, I did all my work with fifty year old B,C, and 400 Farmalls; 630 and 70 Poppin" Johnnies; and whatever old tractor I had traded for to sell. Exept for an Allis 7020 for heavy drawbar work, nothing was ever newer than 1958, nothing...and except for minor repairs, no big expense. I bought the JX70 in the fall of the year, and the first day I tried to use it, the three point hitch wouldn"t go down, and was loading the hydraulic pump. Had to go into the shop and fix that. I was bailing hay with it the next spring, and the clutch went out, all under warrenty (except for 250 dollar pickup fee)...then, the next summer, the reversing unit crapped out...partial discount, but out of warrenty, still paid a 250 smacker pickup fee. Now, Friday, I was pulling a grain drill and a loud groaning started from the transmission. Case IH in Sherman came and picked it up...for 250 bucks. They tell me that the synchronizers went out and the clutch and throw out bearing are out as well. What kind of charge am I looking at?? About $4250! I have only put about 400 hours on this thing, not a single implement hooked behind it was any different or bigger than I had been pulling with the 400 Farmall and the John Deeres-not a one of them bigger than 49hp. And the JX70 is rated at 65hp. Just don"t buy any Turkish made crap from anyone...the New Hollands are made in the same plant. And the dealer isn"t giving any relief. If you farm, or ranch or do anything, Pass this On. Don"t buy Case IH products

That is always my biggest fear about "new" Major problems with light use. That tractor should last forever with out any big issues!

At least a 30 year old tractor might need 5K of work, but you don't feel so bad because you don't already have 50k in it...

It should never happen at all but history tends to repeat itself. IH equipment was always known to be solidly built and reliable. Way back in the 1970"s the Doncaster plant was bedeviled by strikes and industrial unrest and it reflected in the quality of the products. The very last IH tractor we had was always going back to the dealers for repair whilst our older MF tractors seem to just plod along without any trouble. It was not just us, suddenly our neighbours , some of which had been IH all their working lives were buying blue and white and green and yellow tractors as they were just sick of the poor quality stuff that IH were turning out at the time. I remember even my local IH dealer"s fitters told me they were utterly sick of doing warranty repairs.

The new JD's seem to be built awfully light also. The farmer that my son buys his TMR from has a fleet of 6430's as chore tractors. Nice to drive and all that, but they don't strike me as much of a match for a 1955, a 2-105, an 1130 or a 1256 if it came down to heavy work.

I'd wager that the repair bill for one of those fancy-pants trannys would be more than any of the above tractors cost new.

In 1974 I bought a new 1070 Case that seemingly spent more time in the dealer shop than it did in the field. I finally got rid of it. I liked the tractor, I just didn't like seeing it laying in pieces so often. 1070's were not bad tractors, I just happened to get one that was less than reliable. I am not trying to diminish your feelings about your tractor. 400 hours is way too few hours for that much trouble. I'd be steamed too. Jim

I guess that is part of the"Why?"I am looking at buying the biggest Kubota, instead of a new CaseIH tractor right now! Friends have the new CaseNH tractors , and have plenty of trouble with them.
