CASE LA with a detroit?

Did they come with 371s? can you convert a gas tractor to one? Rare tractor? Saw a couple of them on here and they look like a neat tractor. Any good for pulling? OK enough questions for today. Thanks

I believe they were a conversion.. Never came from the factory that way.

Seen them on you tube videos. Also my dad remembers one in our area back in the 50s. It was a conversion and he said it screamed like a banshee when pulling. Understandable with a 2 cycle diesel!

I read somewhere that back in the 40's or early 50's Deere put a Detroit in an LA to see how well a two wheel drive tractor could connect 100 HP to the ground. They chose the LA because they figured the power train could take it. Jim

I have a 6-71 that I can set you up with out of a L9000 truck. Runs GREAT. Eastern SD.

In 1953 John Deere engineering put a 4-71 Detroit with a torque conerter in a 1953 LAI. They realized they needed to build a 100 hp tractor and wanted to experiment with speed and weight. Ironic that it took a Case to develop the New Generation John Deeres. Somehow, this tractor escaped the scrap man and was on display this summer at the 2-Cyl Expo in Waterloo. It is really interesting.

I believe Egging cab company had something to do with the conversion. Not real sure but it rings a bell.
