hi i have a 85 case 2294 with the 3 speed power shift and MFWD. it has about 4600 hours on it. in the last 50 to 100 hour the power shifht has been acting up. as you let out the clutch the first gear powershift seems to lock up or something. it lugs the motor down and kills the tractor. but if you let out the clutch real quick or throw it into second when the clutch is half way out i doesnt do it. 95% of the time from 2nd to first it shifts fine but once ina while it will lug it and you just throw it back into secound. and just in the last 2-3 hours it does it very rarelly going into 3rd. any ideas? im oing to start feild work here shortly and i dont wan to be out of my main tractor. Thank you very much for any help Jon

You have a pilot spool sticking in its bore causeing more clutches to be engaged than should be, a sure recipe for burnt clutches, This subject has been covered in detail and you can get the old posts by going to the archives and searching for powershift problems, in specific pilot spools hanging up. You need to get the powershift valve cleaned and fresh HTU and filters in the hyd system before permanent damage occours, That means quit runniung it NOW and get it fixed. mEl

The control valve on 94 series Case dose not have pilot spools but uses solenoid/valves to direct oil instead. Your problem could be caused by a bad selector control, circuit board, solenoid/valve, or micro switch. This is a good setup and easy to fix with the proper diag tools, but a guessing game without. Hope you have an experienced CASE Tech in your area.

dwag, you are sol correct on the 94 series being controlled electrically. A totally different bear as far as diagnostics. Was there not a device called a breakout box or something to that effect?? I have had some experience with the 94-96 series but not to the extent of some others on this board. Another thing to keep in mind is that a leaking clutch may not allow the pressure switch to kick the previous clutch out and a problem that is really mechanical in nature can look like a electrical one. I believe if it were me diagnosing that unit I would do a flow test on each clutch to eliminate a mechanical failure as the cause rather than start at the other end and work back, that would eliminate one part of the equasion. dawg, thanks for picking up on that, I guess we just get patterned and think a certain way. That is what makes tis board so great, there are many good voices out there. mEl

Jon, You may have a bad pressure switch. You could try swapping the C1 or C2 pressure switches(c1&c2 is for #1 powershift) with C3 or C4. I would swap one at time and try it. If it labors in a different powershift you may have a bad pressure switch. DO NOT use the tractor with a powershift problem it WILL cost you extra $"s, you may just have a electrical problem now, not a internal problem. These other guys are right, you need an Case mechanic to help you with this.
