Case SC vs. Farmall H

I was always curious, has anyone ever hooked up a case Sc back to back with a farmall H? who would pull who? Same thing with the Case DC and Farmall M. Nothing modified, just stock straight out of the field.....

Never tried it, but I suspect in both situations you mentioned both tractors would stand still and spin their tires. Don't think either one would move the other at all.

I agree with M Nut, that neither tractor would win. However, I believe that an SC is a little more powerful than an H, and an M is a little more powerful than a DC, but both comparisons are close.

I must respectfully disagree with the notion that the SC is more powerful then the H, because the Nebraska Tests done at the time clearly show the horsepower edge going to the Farmall every time. In 1941, the Sc was tested on distillate, with 154 cubic inches, it made 19.44 drawbar HP, and the H tested in 1939 also on distillate made 21.37 HP from 152 CI. later, when the SC was tested on gasoline, it had been upgraded to 165 CI and uprated by 50 RPM, it made 27.68 drawbar HP, where as the Super H tested also in 1953 made 30.69 drawbar HP from 164 CI but without the uprated RPM. and it was tested in third gear to the SC being in only second gear. Funny thing about them both is the fact that SAE drawbar HP ratings only varied by 0.02 HP, 22.36 -v- 22.38, with the nod going to the Farmall. I'll let someone else look up the ratings for the DC and the M.

The guy who worked on my baler told me that they did that when he was a kid, and the SC pulled the H across concrete with the H's wheels spinning. I'm not sure if I believe him because his parents owned a case dealership, and he's a huge case fan...Thanks for the reply's guys, I was just curious because they are so close in size and horsepower...

Put the SC and H in front of a two bottom plow and at the end of the day, the Case will have plowed more acres. Put them in front of the pulling sled, and the H will probably go farther. Same with the DC and M.

Interesting post and interesting question.

I enjoy both plowing and pulling. Plowing is the real world and pulling is the fun world. Never had any experience with Cases but have seen a couple of SC's pull in the stock class at local fairs. They do well. I think it all depends on how one has them weighted but between the two? I don't know. Have often seen a Farmall Super C outpull a straight H and a Super C is maybe closer to to being the equivalent of a Case SC.

Case DC and a Farmall M? Still don't know but a Farmall M is strong puller.

I've plowed with an M and a DC using the same 2 16 plow. Couldn't tell any difference in power but the DC used a lot less fuel.

If as someone posted that the H had just a bit more ponies at the draw bar than SC I'd like to know just how yer going to plow more acres with the SC with the same size plow??????


Beside it's all academic now....who plows any serious acres with an H or SC now?

I did plow about 13 acres with a Ford 8N with a 2 bottom plow this spring.....one 7 acre field several deer plots and about 3 acres of garden.

A ballasted SC could easily break an unballasted H's wheels loose. It's not a HP thing, it's a traction thing.

I can't speak to the SC, but every DC I have seen pulling out does the M.
They say that if the drive chains aren't worn much, they turn like a winch.

That's the type of results I get between my 3010 JD diesel and my IH W9. The W9 will out pull the 3010 but because of more gear speeds in the John Deere, if there are hills or differences in soil types the 3010 will make a round faster than the W9.

Never had a SC around when we had the new H (1950) to compare the tractors. Great uncle got a new DC wide front though in 1952...it was "bargain priced" and we tried it on the Gehl field chopper we usually pulled with our W-6. The Case did okay but didn't have the "moxie" the "Old 6" had...the W-6 was souped up some though. At local pulls a guy with an nice SC does good, but in that weight class the best pullers usually are Super H's, lightened up JD A's and/or Oliver 77's.

agreed hands down ,on great fuel economy for case . with dads dc i have beat a famous tuf m at the county tractor pull .i have 54 sc that mite outpull a h ihc ,AND A 49 VAC IF WEIGHTED PROPERLY WILL CERTAINLY TAKE UP FOR THE whiney sc and put that h in his place,. Every VAC I ever was around,time and again had far more Heart and soul than any Sc simply by turnin up the carb jet .yes that chain drive is like a winch! .. ihc were always dependable starting in all weather conditions if left alone for monthes , better dependable trouble frre brakes too ... case brakes were just as good except you had to stay after them adjusting , as far as comfort and safety , case to me wins easily ,rarely will you rip your thumbs off with a case front wheel gettin stuck in a dead furrow ,,, all case models employed angled steerin ,,large strong fenders and stable platform station ..//
