No Serial #'s on Case tractor, only one found was on the engine. how do tell the difference between the 430 and the 530 model with the same engine.
Somewhere between 1960 and 69 possibly. Also, is there a recommended shop manual to assist in rebuild available.

An easy way to tell the difference between a 430 and a 530 is the location of the fuel tank and the battery. A 430 will have both concealed under the aft portion of the hood, with a battery access cover in the top of the hood just ahead of the steering wheel and behind the fuel tank. The 530 fuel tank is essentially part of the "hood" and the battery/batteries are mounted under the steering column.

The 530 has a taller hood, which means the front grill screens are taller than those on a 430, but that mat not be obvious unless you have one of each in the same proximity. There are some other subtle differences depending on the serial number. 430s didn't have a fuel gauge after the cluster gauge models...the 530s did. Fenders on the 430 were different than the 530s until the very late models. Power steering valves and plumbing are different

Thanks it sounds like I have a 530 case, the battery is under the steering wheel. My plans are to restore with the help of my son in law. I wanted to order a manual but the only serial number I can find is on the block G188D 2666261. I was looking for some pictures or web site to look at for restoration ideas and parts.

Your engine is newer than mine. I have an 1968. Go to the caseih website , look for the parts section and close look at the decals for the serial number breaks. Yours may not have the "draft-o-matic" decal on the side of the dash. That may help you narrow it down some.

Tom is right. The parts section of the CaseIH website is a good resource to start narrowing down the right serial number range. My 430 and 630 were without serial number tags, but through a little detective work I've concluded the 430 is a 1964, and the 630 is a 1962. If you want to post of send some pictures, we may be able to help.

If you are looking for a service manual, spend the extra money for the factory manual. In my opinion the IT service is just not compete enough. If you learn you have an early model (prior to 8262800) and would like a parts manual, I have an extra (Catalog No A963). If you can use it...it's yours.

There were two sets of parts manuals published. The first had the early 430, 530 and 630 in separate manuals. Catalog Nos: RI 402, RI 403, & RI 404 , respectively

The second set combined the 430 and 530 together into 3 manuals based on serial number. Prior to serial number 8262800 (1960 to 1964) is Catalog No A963. Serial numbers 8262800 to 8297800 (1965 to 1966) is Catalog No A944, and serial numbers 8297800 and after (1967-1969) is Catalog No A979. The 470-570 (1970-1972) parts manual is Catalog No 1158. You can find all of these on ebay from time to time.

Another good resource is Rich Tworek with the Case factory in Racine. He can supply factory reprints of most of the manuals.

By the way....the serial number of my 1962 188D engine is older than yours, so we're getting it narrowed down a little. Greater than 1962 and less than 1968.
