Case XC 110

Picked up a Case XC 110 yesterday, guy was cleaning out his shed and said come get it. Can't find any info about it. Looks like it was a cheaper(?) Case possibly from the early 80's. Has a deck and snow plow. Runs and drives but the motor mounts are shot. Any one have any info on this tractor. There's no data plate on the tractor but there's one on the mower. 400cc 11 HP Briggs on it. Thanks!

110's were made from 81 to 85 right at the time that Jack Ingersoll was in the process of acquiring the Case line of tractors. They were sold as a "Yard Tractor", not as a Garden Tractor and for quite a bit less than the 200 and 400 series that are the flagship models for this marque. All of them (the 100's) had vertical shaft Briggs engines coupled to manual shift transmissions. There was also a 108, 112, 114 and 116. Available with a SnoCaster, mowing deck, plow blade and bagging attachment. I don't think that this series was made by Case/Ingersoll in the Winneconne plant. I believe it was subbed out to another company.

Hmmm. Interesting. My reference materials don't list an XC 110. The models I mentioned in my other post all have hood decals that show them as YT112, YT114 etc. All the YT's look similar to the 200 series but are scaled down.

In 86, 87 and 88, Ingersoll offered an 80XC model so the XC suffix is not unheard of but you are showing it as a prefix. I don't doubt what you are telling me. If the hood decal on your tractor says it's an XC110, then Ingersoll must have produced it. It's just a bit of a mystery, that's all. Ingersoll did produce hydrostatic drive units as part of their plan to round out their line up and reach different price points in the market place.

I have the sales brochure for 1986 and it lists all of the tractors on offer at the time. The 110 had been dropped from the YT line-up in 1985 so it doesn't show up in my brochure. By the time 1994 rolled around, Ingersoll dropped all of the RER's and YT's made by subs and focused on the original models.

I'll make an inquiry to see if he remembers selling this model or has any info on it. Keep your eye on this thread for the next week or so for a further update.

The motor mounts are broke, so I'm machining some new ones to remount the motor. If you'd like I can email a picture. Also the mower deck has 2 numbers on it Model H41, Serial E-20316. Says Manufactured by J.I.Case Racine, WI on the aluminum tag. There no Data plate anywhere on the tractor. The tractor does have the old block "CASE" on the dash and also on the mower but no "CASE" on the hood. The hood and rear fenders are Case orange and the deck is gloss white. The snow blade is orange. Hood definitely says XC110.

By all means, send me some photos. I'd like to see this animal.

If it only says CASE on it, then one would think that this model pre-dated the Ingersoll years. Up until 1982, J.I. Case owned the line completely and all tractors carried their name only. In 1983, many of the tractors were badged as "Case/Ingersoll" to help with the transition to the new owner. My 1986 brochure makes no mention of the Case name. Ingersoll was fully in control by that time.

The fact that this tractor also has a Racine badge on it is a strong indicator that it is 1981 or 1982. Racine never had an assembly line for any of the lawn, yard or garden tractors. All 200, 400 and 600 series were built in Winniconne but it isn't unusual to see Racine on some of the nameplates and Winniconne on others. Racine was J.I. Case's head office as well as being one of their main plants for building product. Even so, this model was made by a sub-contractor in their plant.

Standard operating procedure for Case and Ingersoll was to rivet a rectangular aluminum tag onto the tractor. Most tags were on the steering/dash support column at about knee height when seated. The other place is on the side of the frame in front of the rear wheels.

Tags on decks, blades, blowers etc were made of aluminum foil and attached with adhesive. What is also interesting is the white deck. When Case discontinued using the old Desert Sunset/Power Red combo in late 1976, the 1977 models were painted Power Red everywhere but had Power White wheel rims. The decks, tillers, blowers and blades were also painted the Power White. The use of the Power White continued for a few years. While I am not positive, I believe that this stopped in 1982 or 1983 when the tractors went to black frames and the implements went back to the Power Red.

I'm not aware of Ingersoll ever using white paint on any of the tractors or implements.

No one I know seems to recognize this particular model including a long-time Ingersoll dealer. Multiple photos would be helpful. Try searching the frame for that tag. Check over the deck for any signs that someone repainted it with the white at some point and that it was originally Power Red. The more accurate the information, the better. Let me know what the tire sizes are too.

I got the motor mounts fixed yesterday and will finish putting it back together this afternoon. There is a wear spot on the deck where orange paint is underneath. Still can't find a serial number on the tractor. I'll take a look again. Can I get an email and I'll send pictures tonight.
