case220 crank help

need to know if a crank out of a k301 kohler work in a k241 kohler for a case 220 mower and what difference is between cranks

The difference between a 10 hp K engine and a 12 hp K engine is the piston bore. Kohler used a lot of 12hp blocks as 10 horse motors simply by not boring them out to the 12 horse piston size. These are actually marked 301 on the outside of the block right above the crank stub.

But you need a crank that comes from a motor that was used in a Case so that you get the correct crank stub length and diameter. If the crank in question has a straight keyed shaft that is longer and slightly larger, then you can cut it to length and use a different LoveJoy coupler half.

10HP crank has a shorter stroke than 12 & 14 HP. I think it is 3" and 3 1/4". Piston will pop out of the block. You can bore to 12 STD. and get a 12HP rod, and you'll be set. I think I might have one or two Case 10HP cranks in my inventory.

I guess I owe you an apology. ANON is correct and I am wrong.

The K-241 10 hp engine has a bore and stroke of 3.25 x 2.88 inches.

The K-301 12 hp engine has a bore and stroke of
3.38 x 3.250 inches

The K-321 14 hp engine has a bore and stroke of 3.50 X 3.250 inches.

My story is.... I was confusing the 12 and 14 hp models with the 10 and 12 hp models.........and I'm stickin' to it. LOL

However, I believe that you could upgrade your 10 hp engine, if you are rebuilding it, to a 12 horse engine by getting a crank from a 12 horse motor and then buying a new piston, rings, wrist pin and rod for a 12 horse.

Of course, this would be predicated on your block being stamped "301" on the backside just above the crank.

The block having 301 on it wouldn"t be too big of a deal. Kohler actually made blocks with the 301 on them, but had the K241 bore. I don"t know if they were using up leftover castings or what the deal was.
