Casting mark on several makes. CWC

Has anyone noticed the "CWC" mark on Fegusons and possibly fords and other makes of tractors. I have a 1924 Oldsmobile that has that same mark on the cylinder head and was wondering if anyone knew what it meant. This has puzzeled me for a long time.

CWC is a Foundry Casting Mark from the Campbell, Wgant, & Canon foundry

CWC is now a division of Textron. They were at one time the largest sand foundry in the world. It stretched about 2 miles long throughout the town of Muskegon, Michigan (my home town). Energy issues and the popularity of aluminum castings carved their market way back.

It's now a shadow of it's former self and makes camshafts. It still does over 1/4 million parts a week however.

The air used to be brown with smoke and fly ash. Acid rain and ash fallout used to be so bad at the main site that the guys who worked there had "work cars" that they would sacrifice. The ash and slag from the open stack would eat the paint and into the glass. All the street signs in the area had rust all over them. You could always tell someone who worked at "Cambell"s" by their ride.

Rail traffic was huge back then bringing in scrap metal and coke for the furnaces.

There's a strip mall and a Home Depot there now. How that development got signed off by the environmental agency is beyond me.

Yes, you'll find CWC stamped on lots of castings. Bob's right on the mark. Hey-Bob I'm from the Muskegon area also and live in Ravenna now. I do the telephone work at the cam plant. Dave.
