Third attempt to post question; gets shorter each time.

Looking for a family fridndly name for a male cat who will live a rather macho indoor/outdoor life.

Any suggestions?

Thank ypu,
Glenn F.

I think ours is named dam cat. At least that's what I always call him, and he even comes when I call.

I have been wanting to get some feline barn creatures to challenge the rodents. Tried to introduce a couple quite wild ones late last winter. They were too wild. One died in the combine, one in the road. Late this fall a tiny ill kitten showed up here. We wanted to name it with something that would work either way. We virtually simultaneously came up with Sam! Samantha or Samuel. Wife nursed it back to health. She has been converted from a dog lover/cat hater to a more well rounded attitude! And Sam(uel) is doing nicely. The old dog(Ellie)(the last one) tolerates Sam. Good thing Ellie is about 80 times bigger than Sam. Because I think Sam is about that many times smarter than Ellie.

Glenn, We had an old Brindle, Barn, Tom cat that had to weigh 30 lbs. Big old outfit, just one whale of a mouser and follow you any where.
His name was "Cow-town" because of his physical attributes, You will understand when you read the title line of that Bob Wills Classic... "Big Balls in Cow-Town" He was a great Cat!
We have his 2 sons here now, both Brindles, "Tippy" and "Newt", Both huge cats in their own right. just as friendly and good mousers too.
We also had a "Mack" many yrs ago, Mack,,,because he purred so loudly, like a Diesel engine idling.
Hope this helps
Later,
John A.

If he wants free housing, free food, extended benefits if he can't work because there are no mice left, then "Harry" would work. But lose the "macho" part.

We have Milo, Tommy, Nicky, Fuzzy, Junior, Ozzy living with us now. We have had: Gizmo, Big Foot, Simba, Tuvac. These are just the males. My wife is a big cat person. Since we have a big old farm house she has always had 7-10 house cats. About one for each room. That is how it usually works too. They each have their own place.
I am not a big cat person but she never complains about any of my collecting. So it is more than a fair trade. I will say that the house cats are much less bother than dogs in the house.

Named our first cat "Ezbie". Mother-in-law commented on what a nice old-fashioned name and just had to ask what made me think of it. I had to tell her:

Right after my wife brought it home as a kitten, I almost tripped over it and yelled out, "Get that little "s-b" out from under my feet!"

The name stuck, but the mother-in-law was not much impressed!

My sister has a large male cat.....name is Milo.

My male cat that I had as a kid....Smokey.

Or these names,

Tiger
Bear
Tom
or just plain Schitt head.

Had a female named Fluff Elizabeth, a tom cat named Tom Black another named Jimmy John. I have a tom cat named Freddy now. A calico female named Callie. Freddy is a lot like a dog, he comes when you call him no matter how far away he is. He follows me all day when I am working.

Our barn cat is a noisy critter. We named him meow.

Neighbor at the end of the street has 2 cats.
Kitty boy and kitty girl.

Wifes g-ma, all her cats were named baby.

Not a big cat fan, but meow does keep the rodent population in check.

Have fun....don t. ....

We had an orange tom cat once; I named him "Genie" because he liked to disappear for a couple weeks and then pop up at home all scared up from his adventures.

Friend of mine has two cats; their names are "One" and "Other One".

My sister has a male tri-color cat with semi-long hair and 7 claws on each of his front feet. She named him Ticonderoga and called him Ty-Ty most of the time.

Remember -- Dogs have owners and cats have "Staff".

Had one for whom no name ever felt quite right, so he ended up being called No-Name for the 13 years I had him. Best cat I ever had. He disappeared last summer after becoming increasingly old and frail, but I"ll find him some day when I move the right junk in my machine shed, I"m sure. I miss him.

I am reading each of your responses with interest. We are watching kitty closely as he scopes out his new digs, (about 2,800 crowded square feet including basement).

He'll get a fitting name within a week or so.

Thank you,
Glenn F.

We have one, his name is "Lucky". I ran over his brother, and he stayed clear of the truck. I guess he lived up to his name.

We used to have "Charlie" - big, gray, talkative klutz that fell off of stuff. After he disappeared SWMBO decided on a small gray female and called her "Charlotte"...me 'n the Vet called her "Chainsaw"! She finally got so mean she had a date with a .22. She's been gone for 8 years and in a different state and "'Vester" still ducks when he goes through a door! Here's a pic of what 30 pounds of stupid looks like....he's operating in full stealth mode here... He was hit in the head as a kitten and Vet said there may be some brain damage...No Sh*t! This boy is dumb as a sack of door knobs...but he's amusing...
His colors also match the 2 "Boston Terrorist" we have.

My cat came to me in '97 already named Dusty. He is a long hair grey Maine Coon or partly so. Very apt name as cats clean and the saliva dries on their fur and later flakes off causing "dander" which leaves dust all over the house.

I suspect my cat was so named due to his dusty grey look. He is about 18 years old and has high blood pressure (which I treat him for with pills) and is partially blind (from eye hemorrhaging and thus retina detachment, caused by the high blood pressure), and blood work shows his kidneys are failing (also probably damaged by the high blood pressure. Not sure how much longer he will be around, but he has held on much longer than I originally expected.

Interesting fact, most people who are allergic to cats, are actually allergic to an enzyme in the saliva and one breed, Siberian Russians, do not have this enzyme in them, thus the "hypo allergenic" cat.

(quoted from post at 05:36:44 12/26/10) My sister has a male tri-color cat with semi-long hair and 7 claws on each of his front feet. She named him Ticonderoga and called him Ty-Ty most of the time.

I forget the odds but a male tri-color cat is rare.

Dusty

Maybe Lieutenant, later General, Scheisskopf in the book and movie, "Catch 22"?

In German, "scheiss" means s*it and "kopf" means head. Put them together........
