Changes/upgrades from 4450 to 4455

I've been shopping around for a low hour 4450 (w/mfwd) Looked at a couple so far, neither really flipped my switch. Got a line on what's supposed to be a very nice, clean, low hour 4455. Not totally familiar with 55 series. So what did Deere change from 50 series to 55 series on that tractor?

Not a lot of changes between 50 & 55 series that I can think of. 55 series had unique cast rear wheels that weren't rack & pinion that takes a special tool to change wheel tread settings. I think 50 vs 55 series SGB had different type outside door handles. My 4255 has the push button type handle. Both models have the gear driven water pump. 55 series had an upgraded cylinder head for better fuel economy.

(quoted from post at 13:12:08 02/14/13) 55 series has better lights on the front of the hood also.

I always hated running my tractor at night but I was never very impressed the lights in the hood on my 4255.

Not to hi jack the thread, but if you do much work in the dark, Hids seem to be the way to go. I got talked into going with the hids to replace the halogen lights on my 4440, so glad I did.

Here in Ohio if you have a low hour either one of those with MFWD you are talking BIG money !!!
Those are the most popular and in demand tractor going.Guys just don't like anything from JD any newer then those.
If it is good and a good price you better snatch it up !

We have both tractors and the 4455 out performs the 4450 in the field . More torque and better fuel efficiency. The 4450 has the typical bosch IP. The 4455 has a Denso injection pump . Anybody have an opinion on the Denso pumps?

Gonna go tomorrow and look at it. Seller hasn't shown it to anyone else yet. We've come to sort of an agreement on price already. If it's everything I'm told, it comes home with me. I've got a 4440 PS now (and plan on keeping it too) I like the idea of the 15 speed PS. It'll be used mostly to pull a Kinze 8-row 30" planter w/interplants.

55 series have the auto MFWD also, which makes it nice turning. Touch either brake and it shuts off. Also, at road speed, it shuts off at approx 9mph and if you apply both brakes, it engages the front end for more stopping power

What was the cost for the upgrade in lights? Did you get them
from Deere? I have a 4440 and have been thinking about
upgrading?
Thanks

I upgraded those worthless hood lights on my 4650 to LED's. The LED's might shine a little farther ahead than the factory lights were when they were new but the LED's are BRIGHT AND WHITE! I can finally see the first 50-75 feet in front of the tractor plain as day. Jim

I had 4 auxiliary lights mounted on the fenders, two up front facing forward and two where the original lights where in the rear. My auxiliary lights used the h3 bulb, so I ordered two h3 bulb type hid kits from Larsenlights.com I think around $50-$55 per kit shipped. Those 4 lights are way brighter than the original eight.
I don't have my halogen lights hooked up anymore. I have six of the round Deere ones with 30 hours on them maybe, if anyone needs them I'll give you a good deal!
