need advice on what to seed for cheap temerary sheep pasture in nw oh .

Your best bet is local County Extension office they will know which will grow the best then go to a good seed dealer.

I have access 20 acres for free untill mid june .I was thinking about oats and cutting and baling them .Is there any feed value if you cut before they head out.

I won't say that is your best route, but oats has much better feed value if you cut it just before it heads out.

There are some annual grasses that yeald much more value, but cost more to plant. From here in MN, not sure what works there....

First you mentioned pasture - grazing, now you mention cutting and baling - that makes a difference too on what you plant, the more you know about what you need and when, the more obvious the correct plant will become.

Cheap is going to be hard to come by. The last bag of cover crop (bin) wheat I got this year was the last bag the co-op had, it was 13.50 and they could not get any more. If you could get wheat or rye grass on the ground now in a thaw, it might make some pasture or hay, which ever you want. It is kinda late to be plan'n for that now, if you had longer in the summer, I would say go with a warn season annual like Sudan or pear millet, but you are not going to get them more than a foot tall by the middle of June. If your going for hay these are hard to get up that early because they take a while to cure, that is why I like cut'n them in July, August, and September because you don't have much of a chance of them getting wet.
