clamp and wedge

I now have my grandfather's old Super A. After going through some of the items, I have found many things I haven't figured out what they are yet. One of the things in question is a bar/implement clamp and wedge bolt. It isn't the standard clamp that wraps completely around but forms a "C" shape when viewed from the side. I have 3 of these. Are they the original type that came with the tractor? Not sure what they would have came with and why there are only 3. I also have the original manuals for the tractor and many implements. The only clamps shown are the wrap around ones. Any ideas?

It appears to have the same wedge bolt, but the configuration of the clamp is different. I have been around the old tractors my entire life, but have never run across this type of clamp. I will try to take a picture and add it within a day or so.

You are correct as they are wedge clamps that fit into the cultivator shank holder - single hole and when tightened; they support the cultivator shanks. Don't loose them!

I'll bet they are the clamps to hold the cultivators on and they are hard to find. I lost 2 the first time I tried to use mine and could not find any anywhere. Believe it or not I was hunting pheasent in Nebraska and found an old abandoned cultivator and there were 3 on the cultivator. I love hunting in south Ne. because of the old abandoned farmsteads and history. I tried to find the owner of the property but was told the farm had been sold to an out of state owner years ago.

I have seen a few of those type clamps around. I dont know if they are "original" but they do fit a SA and Cub.

Might have been a metal saving feature in the later years of production?

Hey DLJ,
I too have been around these tractors for about 58 years. The open sided or "C" shaped clamps are for use in places where you cannot slide one on the END of a cultivator bar. We used them to hold the furrow opener plow on a Super A planter. You CANNOT get the closed type on there. BTW when you put them on, place them so the nut of the wedge is on bottom, then you can bang the h*** out of them to get them tight. BTDT.
