CLEANING A FIELD

Does anyone have a good way to clear a field of small branches that have fallen off of trees? These range in size from 2ft long to smaller, and 2" and smaller in diameter. I want to disk the field and have picked up all of the large branches and rocks, but would like to get the real small stuff. I guess I could just disk over them, but I thought someone would have a better idea, because when I mow this field I don't want any problems with stuff getting in the sickle barr....thanks....

landscape rake is the way to go.
if you do not have one, then you need one, always need a good excuse to buy another tool.

they are great for moving grape vine cuttings when pruning. moving leaves around, grading or dressing the rock driveway.

you can turn the rakes around backwards and drag it over the garden to just loosen up about 2" down to help dry out the dirt.

would not want to be without one.

but i am no one to ask, as i would not want to be without any tool.

i got mine 6ft. for $200 used, worth every dime, but as you guessed, it looks brand new now with a new coat of paint.

I was wondering if an old BUCK RAKE would work, like you said, rake it into rows, but my wife probably wouldn't like to ride on the rake and trip the lever with her foot. HA HA, not to many of these around so maybe a landscape rake would be best.....thanks....all...

I have one of those old dump rakes out back. Been years since we have used it but it did still work when it was parked there years ago as in 30 plus years ago. Was my grand fathers

Kinda depends on what you will do with the field next. If you are going to cut & rake hay, you don't want a bunch of chopped up woody branches ending up in the hay.

Also depends if you disc will actually turn the branches under enough so they won't bother a surface operation.

I went and got one of those grabber do-hinkies things and pile them up and then later go pick up the piles, sure saves bending over all the time for each stick.

I cleared a field of small branches by using a landscape rake with every other tooth taken out. Worked for me, Good luck. Roy

I used to use a JD side delivery rake but my limbs were smaller than two inches. Raked into rows and then throwed on a wagon with a pitchfork.

Photo shows mostly grass, but there was a place I cut off two to three foot aspens, and it worked good. raked up a row then raked into piles, and forked into buck and dumped into truck.

A pasture drag/harrow works really good for that. Whenever I've cleared wooded land, I always use my pasture drag to rake the small sticks/debris. Mine is three point so when I get to my pile, I simply raise the drag and it leaves all the sticks right there. Works really good. Amazing really.
