looking through my owners manual last night for my john deere B grain drill, i see where it says to "clean all parts inside the boxes with kerosene". i'm guessing back in the day, that was the best way to go. in todays world, what works best to clean the insides of the boxes.
thanks

This should really stir up some folks....but my father, who had worked as a natural gas driller for years, would blow out our Massey 12 A drill using high pessure natural gas!!! Worked real well too!! Flame away!!! BTW, traded that 12A for an International 510 37 yrs ago so no longer need the nat.gas cleaner.

Ryobi 18V rechargeable Vacuum cleaner, Harbor freight mini vacuum nozzle, = no seed left in the boxes, and not having to open frozen seed doors, to clean out all of the seed, to prevent molding, and rust. Give it a spray of whatever light oil product is available, after vacuuming.

I use air compessor to blow all seeds and dust off of and out of drill. Open grain doors and let them swing down, turn mechanisms and blow again until you are sure it is clean. Completely grease. Then I mix motor oil in diesel at 1 part oil to 8 parts diesel, put in a garden sprayer and wet the complete drill, inside, outside all in the boxes and all the gears. The diesel and oil keeps spiders and most mice out and the drill is ready to go the next year. By the way, the JD B operator manual recommends this method. Tom

All we ever do is use a shop vac to suck out the old seed if we didn't use it up the year before.

Never oiled the drill, and it's an old Van Brunt drill that Grandpa bought new quite some years ago. We keep it in the shed and it works fine.
