Just got the crank back from shop 5 11/16 stroke. 304 cu. Have to trim the top of the piston deck down. and narrow the wd rods for a 400 chrysler bearing. Need to find a high compression head and a late model carb. WD sleeves are being trimmed 2 done and 2 left block is bored and waiting. Lot of air flow issues to work on now.

have you cc'd things to determine comp. ratio before getting an hc head, is this on an sc?

Good to Hear from you! Sounds like progress to me, You shure you want a High Comp Head? There valves are more shroulded and i am guessing less flow like on a DC! Dont get me wrong Compression is good But You need all the Airflow you can get on that size Engine! Let me know more when you get it Running! It would be neet to see it run down the track!

Cliff, sorry it took so long for me to reply have strayed from checking the sight regularly. I don't know yet if I am going to use a high compression head yet or not. I posted to see if someone had cc'd one but got no reply. If you have I would greatly appreciate the info. The low compression cc's about 150 and that only gives me about 8.5-9 to 1 ratio. Still looking in to it. Could plain it but don't know how much I'll gain yet. I'd like to hear more if anyone else has an opinion on the subject.

I have 2 SC tactors ! high Comp and its together and a lo comp apart as the project! As memory serves me the walls around the Valves are stright up and down without much Valve clearance for Flow on the Hi Comp Vs the angle wall on Low comp head! As for cc of High comp, I dont now! All i can tell ya is without airflow Compression is useless! Big DCs work better with Lo mid Comp Heads for flow and pop up pistons for Compression!

are you sure going from 41 ci per cyl. to 76 ci would only increase the comp to 8.5 to 9 to 1? I am thinking about doing one so I haven't done any math yet, 50 to 60 hp would be enough for our classes, thinking about something in the range of 250-280 ci, I have a 5617 head but no valves in it right now to cc it, I would think a 5618 would be ok

Lots of good compression calculators out there this is one I have used. The wd pistons I am going to use will have to be milled down for they will come out of the block. I am thinking about leaving domes on them to up the compression using the low compression head.
