I smoked my clutch on my 9n bad like had to push it into barn wont move under own power question what all is required to change and is there any tricks to make it ease also since i will be in there is there anything else I should replace.

All i have is basic hand tools can it be done without any special tools.

You need basic tools, and adequate equipment to support the tractor during the "split".

A simple clutch alignment tool is needed, or simply remove the transmission input shaft and use IT as the alignment tool. Replace it's seal while you're in there.

A torque wrench will come in handy for the flywheel and pressure plate bolts.

Have the flywheel resurfaced at an automotive machine shop, and take a good look at the ringgear, and replace if it's stating to look a little ragged.

You can do the split without too much trouble but I would suggest that you get a service manual. There are some things that you have to be careful with to do the job safely.

Replace the input shaft seal while you are in there too.

Good luck.

Basic tools are all that is needed. Practically the whole job can be done with a 1/2, 9/16, and 11/16 sockets and wrenches. Tons of stuff in the archives. I find it easier to remove the entire front axle and tires from the engine and set them aside so they don't throw me off when aligning the pilot bearing, I think six bolts. The engine will lean to one side otherwise. Some folks make wooden wedges to hold engine steady. Get four to six bolts of the same thread as the ones holding the two sections together but about six inches long. Cut the heads off. Get the ones with threads on only part of bolt. Screw these in a couple of threads only and use them as guides to align the two halves. The bottom ones are hard to get back out if you screw all the way in. Plan the job on flat concrete with no cracks if you are using a rolling jack under engine. If you can suspend the engine from overhead, even better. Use wood blocks under trans. You don't need wooden wedges under the fingers of the pressure plate like the manual says. You can use all kinds of tricks to get the pilot bearing out, like grease, never worked for me, remove flywheel and knock it out the back. use wood block or big socket to knock back in. Throwout bearing is pretty straight forward, knock off old one and knock on new one. You can give the pressure plate a light sanding. For me its a two day job. One to disassemble and one to re-assemble. Some here can do it in hours. Align your guide bolts and push engine back keeping equal distance all around as you go. If the shaft is lined up it will fall together. Do not force the two halves together. You may need to turn the shaft a couple of times until the splines are lined up. Biggest mistake made is putting clutch in backwards. I don't remember which end goes in first, check the archives, the lip is longer on one end than the other. Also the new pilot bearing will be seled on both sides and the original was not. Not a bad job, case of beer and a helper go a long way.
