Cold weather starting

Hello its me again trying to take in some wisdom from the seasoned John deere men do you think there would be any chance of causing damage to an un -styled by pull starting it in this kind of weather if it has not been started in a long time (water built up internaly)thanks again.

I'm not a JD person but I think its risky to pull a tractor with water in the pistons (I assume thats what you mean by water internally). It could have already set up the piston or if the piston tries to compress the water on a compression stroke could break something. It could also be a chunk of ice. How did it get water into it anyway - uncovered exhaust?

Charlie M The tractor has been parked inside there is no water in the engine this I know I meant in the tranny We started it last sept. Thank You.

if you have water in trans there will be water the rear housing if it is bolow 32% the bull gears will be froze and will not turn, better warm her up and drain off water frist lol Kent

I moved my Farmall H one time with ice in the transmission and cracked the housing. I have thawed mine by placing a tarp over the rear end and placing a kerosene heater under it for a while. Again I'm not familiar with the JD transmission but on my tractors if I can rock them by hand then they aren't frozen.

Will not hurt to pull start it if you first make sure you have no water or ice in either the engine or rear end. If you have water either place drain it first or you could be in for big problems and if cold enough to freeze bigger problems

It also dont take much condensation to gather up in the bottom of the crankcase.Only takes very little to freeze up the oil pump.When this happens the tractor will start and run but will have no oil pressure.If you notice upon startup that this has happened shut down,drain oil and yank oil pump.On the end of oil pump shaft you may or may not notice a square tin coupling,may be on end of other shaft if not broke or in bottom of crankcase in two pieces,which will probably be the case.I made one up a bit heavier,works good. Oil floats on water so the water would be near the drain plug. what is wrong with draining a little and check for water.Nothing comes out,you have an answer.
