Combine Rear Tires: which direction?

I am putting new rear tires on a Case/IH 1620. Can anyone help me understand why I might want to put those rear 11.2 x24"s on backwards? I see this all the time but they were not that way on this machine. What is the purpose of having them on backwards on the rear? Thanks for your help!

Any non powered Ag/bar treaded tire should be put put on the opposite way you would a regular tractor drive tire. The tire will bite the ground better this way and roll over things better. If you run in slick/muddy conditions the tire will turn and not skid as bad. The tire will also clean itself of mud much better this way too. Think about how the forward motion acts on the tread design. The front tires are dragging the back along. The V will start the rear tire gripping the ground to turn.

Assuming it is 4 wheel drive I think the only reason to put the rear tires on backwards is if you find yourselp going in a soft spot in the field (been there) it would give you better tracton to back out.

Putting the tires on backwards I've been told that they will not wear as quickly. I've never done this myself but i am going to try it the next time I have to put tires on something like this.

All exactly right and true. Additionally the track will cover better as it will throw the dirt to the center.
