Combining in SD in the 2010s

The end of an era. Nephew traded the IH 2388 for a JD 9760 Bullet Rotor combine with 35' header. Can you see it peeking around the side of my old red barn? First JD combine ever on our farm. I guess all things eventually have to change.

Thought I was going to see a 8120. Why the change? We were Massey from WW II to early 80s when we traded a 760 (poor combine) for a 8820 (great combine) and have been JD ever since. Bought a JD 7700 a few years ago just for a toy. Used it to cut 200 acres of mustard last fall. Had a bunch of issues and I told the old man if we would have bought a 7700 instead of 8820 back in the day, we might have switched to the Axial Flows.

We always had a red combine too till about 5 years ago we switched to a 9870 deere. Two years ago IH brought us there big combine out to demo in an attempt to get us back. It was a nice machine but we liked the deere we have a lot better.
