hey guys i have a 1950 john deere b and the problem is that it has no compressoin at all. all i did to the tractor was a new head gasket and a new manifold. i set the valves right, and even with the rockers completly loose the tractor has no compression before i tore thsi tractor apart it had super compression but i did not run. all input will be very much apreciated. thanks again. jonathan s in northeast pa

When you took the head off did the nuts come off the studs or did the studs come out of the block? Perhaps you ran out of threads when you torqued the head.

my brother and i came up witht the idea that the one cylinder has good compression but the one has collapsed rings, so tomrrow im taking of the crak inspection plate to c it i can wiggle the piston if the rings are bad, if thay are bad, well she is coming apart AGAIN, o well, its a good learing experience.

Do a cylinder leakdown test to see where the compression is going. Saves tearing stuff apart needlessly.

Who the HELL told you you had "collapsed rings"????

ok here is what happened. early this spring my brother and i pulled the tractor out of the shed and were pulling it around ot try starting it. it started after two or three trips up the road, the problem was it wasnt running right, acting like it was running on one cylinder and its was taking the oil from the crank and putting it out the exhaust. so my brother and i think now that since the tractor had been sitting for two yers and it got a case of collapsed rings in the one pistion, sry for all the confusion im only 15. sry. jonathan s in northeat pa
