Ok so I need some opinions on compressors. I am looking at the husky 60 gal at HD and Ingersol Rand 60 gal at Northern tool.

HD is 459 +tax

10.2 at 90 psi
1 yr limit warranty

IR is 599 no tax

we have a cumbell hausfeld 60 gal for a couple years now. about the same output numbers and was around 400 at the time at tcs. keeps up with the sand blaster, da, impact and anything we put on it. running 2 things at once it gets a little close but is a great compressor for the money. its a bit noisey but they all are. just my 2 cents

I usually like the older design of belt-driven cast iron compressors. They turn slow, and, I have a Grainger's "SPEEDAIR" brand. 2 hsp. cast iron belt driven that develops 5.5 cu ft. at 100 psi, 10.5 cu ft at 50 psi. Portable enough to take to the "job site".

I tend to stick with a good parts source also. I generally keep things for a life time.

Check out GRAINGERS. You get what you pay for!

PS: Even SEARS has some good belt driven compressors, too.

If I was you. Call a local Gardener Denver rep. See if they have a good condition used piston compressor that they can sell you.

The IR compressor is likely a better quality unit then the Home depot one.
Check the Graingers catalog, IRs are for sale in that catalog. Check Craigs list too.

The husky in your link is a recon.. Just making sure you are comparing apples to apples price wise. Otherwise, they are pretty much the same. IR has a metal belt shroud and weighs a little more, so it'd be my choice. First thing I'd do is slow it down by about 200rpm.

Agreed.

Compressors driven athigh RPM by 3600 RPM 2 pole motors are very noisy.

Larger compressors driven at 600 RPM or so by 1800 RPM 4 pole motors are much more quiet and longer lived.

I recently purchased the IR unit you describe from TSC, I do like it and it is not very noisy, not NEAR as noisy as the POS oil-less that I finally killed.

Parts will never be a problem with an IR as there are dealers everywhere that sell parts or replacement pumps for IR air compressors.
