Computer software outdated.

Well I pulled up my internet banking account and found some really crazy things on site...had never seen such before. I made an appointment with a bank employee and she said that my software was too old to interface with their bank's software/iternet convenience. I have a couple of imacs and they are dated. I tried to get upgrades on both of them and apple said forget it. I really enjoy the convenience of being able to do my banking and monitoring from my home but that seems to be a thing of the past.

Welcome any solutions you folks may have mastered to solve this problem. I'm not into fancy phones (yet) as I use a flip phone and it works (used to work) for me.....nothing like planned obsolescence. Sign of the times.
New computers are pretty cheap.

I had the same problem with my older Ipad and it would only support IOS 12.x or something like that, broke down and bought a new Ipad one generation older than the latest and greatest. I believe the problem is that the older Ipads don't support the newer encryption algorithms.
If you buy it at the Apple Store you can convince them to move all you personal info from the old Ipad to the new Ipad easily.

I have my daughters old MacBook Pro from 2012. OS 10.12.6, I cannot upgrade the OS anymore. The highest version of Safari (v 12,1.2) does not work a lot of sites.

I have had no problems with FireFox v. 115.12. I do not do online banking with it, but it works with other sites for financial transactions, when Safari will not.

FireFox is free and worth a try.

To your point, I've downloaded operating systems and burned them to a cd or dvd only to have problems making it executable. Now when I need one, I buy it burned and ready to use from ebay or some other source.
I bought a 10.13.6 programmed loader disc for my IMAC off ebay and it took awhile for it to install but it did just fine. wasn't very expensive. What did happen is that Apple sent me a reply to a question I had about something (I forget what) and they said that they don't support this computer.......no biggie, I got tired of their wanting to update me all the time anyway.

On the original question, the bank must have had a hiccup because the site is back to where it was and I have no problem with my current software running the site. Phew!

You can get certified refurbished macs from apple or Ebay and save some dough. I needed a new tower pc with windows 10 and found nice one with a new Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, graphics card and wireless for just a little over $300. When my Dell laptop craps out, I will buy a MacBook.

Planned obsolescents......they want us to keep buying!!!!! Most new stuff uses subscription software so you just keep on paying!

Linux. Runs on most anything since computers were new! Free. No subscriptions. Continually updated to eliminate bugs. Spam/virus free. Many different flavors to choose from; if you don't like one, move on to another. zuhnc

I'm suspecting that it has to do with the security certificate upgrades... older os running older browsers of any platform will have difficulty due to either 32 bit or 64 bit security certificates instead of the newer "required" ones... Also each web page has to be able to properly display for every resolution and os out there, so this also creates difficulty with small, non standard displays... with buttons and options no readily appearing on the page correctly. I have the opposite problem with a lot of my equipment and cameras will only have obsolete interfaces to I have to keep "K-melon" browser around to interface the many ancient devices. Some browsers will let me put in "exceptions" and others will not. ymmv.
