Coop or Cockshutt?

A few questions. How do you tell if your tractor used to be a coop or cockshutt. Did they produce different serial numbers for the coop than they did for the cockshutt, or did they just label and paint them different if they were going to the United States. Did they paint them the same or were the coops more orange. Mine is serial number 11286, can I make it a cockshutt?

Im thinking you could make it LOOK like a cockshut but being as how you have the ser# that was built as a Co-op it'll always be a Co-op...I was thinking of trying the reverse cause the first tractor I ever ran on my grandpas farm in Indiana was an E-3 and it seemed there were more Cockshutts around than Co-ops

I don't think you can tell which were Cockshutts
CO-OP or Gambles Farmcrest from the serial number.
Yes you can make it a Cockshutt by changing the
nosestrip to Cockshutt and painting it red.
There used to be a website for the International
Cockshutt Club but I can't find it now. They have
Nose strips

To my knowlege there is no way to tell by the serial no. if it was a Cockshutt or a CO-OP. The serial number lists I have do not seperate them. I just restored a Cockshutt 30 that appeared to have original paint. When we stripped the red paint off the engine it was painted orange underneath. Figure that one out.

The serial number tells you only what year that model is. It does not specify whether it is a Cockshutt or CO-OP. They are the exact same tractor except for the nose strip and the color of paint. You can make any of them a Cockshutt or CO-OP and no can tell what it originally was.

There's all kinds of combinations- my 35 has red paint "at the bottom", under orange- what's unusual is that the 35 was never painted as a Co-op by the factory, so somebody got their wires crossed somewhere along the way. It also had 30 sheet metal when I got it, with the result that the back of the gas tank lacked about 8 inches of reaching the pedestal. It was pretty goofy looking.

Cockshutt never kept serial number records of which tractors were Cockshutt,CO-OP,or Gambles.
So you can make it whatever you like. The only other thing you need to change, like some of the other posts said,is the nose strip. One of the previous posts mentioned finding orange paint under the red. I read somewhere that some of the CO-OPs were repainted red by the selling dealer if thats what the farmer prefered.
