copper strip

Is it possible to replace the copper strip on a front mount distributor or do I have to replace the breaker plate. It looks like the strip is pressed in where the condenser brass screw goes.

Replace it w/ a plastic license plate grommet. The hole in the plate is square & the grommet fits in it nice & tight. Make a new strip out of the copper conductor on an old set of points.

Home depot sells a square of copper step flashing that you can cut many new strips from.Thin copper can be cut with scissors and the screw holes made with a leather punch. The end grain of a hardwood block works good to cut holes in copper and leather.

Hey NC how did your Ford script painting come out? If I remember right you and I had talked about it over the phone. LB

I use the copper strip off the old points. Very thin copper, when drilling second hole, have a block of wood underneath & have a pair of pliers real close to the drill hole.
