There is a guy selling for $7 something, the instructions to resurrect dead Nicad batteries. He says he has a 98% success rate. Does anyone know what he is doing, is it ligitmate, or is he blowing smoke. Wondering if anyone has had any luck with there batteries. I have a 18v craftsman, used it for 4 or 5 years, and the batteries went bad last fall, I bought two new ones and a new charger at Sears, and now they don't hold a charge very long. If I leave them sit over a day or two on the shelf they are just about dead. I have been thinking about a Dewalt or Makita. Or can I "ressurrect" the old one?

I tried that on a couple riobi batteries,but it did no good. These were never much good in the first place,but some of the problem could have been from lack of use.

Google "restore NiCads" or "rejuvenate NiCads", and you will get a bunch of info for FREE. (And probably well worth what you paid for it!)

Basically, you "zap" them with a jolt of electricity to remove "whiskers" of metal that are shorting out a cell internally.

Some folks claim to have success with tossing them in the freezer overnight.

Trouble is, in most cases the "rejuvenation" is short-lived.

Save your money it will work for a short time but there is no long term fix for batteries that dont hold a charge. Check out Rigid at Home depot the have battery replacement in warranty .

Interstate battery can rebuild them cheaper than replacements and you will have a better battery when its done, any intersate dealer can send them in, it takes about a week to get them back...Jim

I bought the booklet off ebay. Haven't tried it yet. Like it was said, you zap the battery so many times for a certain length of time. You need to do it from a larger battery. I'm just waiting until I have a couple 12v batteries in hooked up to make 24v so I can do it on the 19.2v batteries I have. There is also an additional procedure if they are really dead.

They also recommend not leaving a battery on the charger all the time. Just charge them before use which is about next to impossible for me since I don't know I need to use one till its time. oh well.

Hello tjiniowa.
NiCads will built up memory and they will not take a full charge. You need to discharge them untill there is no voltage reading with the load off. A resistor overnight will do the trick.
You can use a 10ohms 10 watts and it will work just fine.
