Correct Colors

Alright,

I have a 45" B that I need PPG paint codes for. Finally have this thing ready to rock, and now its time for the paint booth. According to the guy I talked to, there is a ton of "John Deere" greens and yellows now.

If, anyone could help, that would be great.

Thanks!

If it has any original paint on it compound and buff it out in one spot and have the PPG guy come out with his scanner and match it. I've done that a number of times on boats and it does an amazing job of color matching.

Did just that on my '50 B and came up with 43817 green and for the yellow use code 263 / 81512A PPG. Ironically , I ordered a seat back (metal) from Leland Schwantz (then the seat man)and it matched my paint exactly , so other's formulas aren't far off.

Before you go and buy PPG paint! I have used PPG for a long time and just finished a Farmall tractor and used MONTANA Big Sky paint and primmers and will never go back to PPG !! IT is by far better to work with easy to sand and the shin is alot better Chris

Today, I use the DuPont Ful-Thane urethane line, but back in 2002, my 70D got PPG green and DuPont yellow AE and a clear. I have always used 46180 as the PPG "JD Green" code for the DAR series (acrylic enamel), but never had found a nice yellow, so I have always used a DuPont (263 for JD yellow in any DuPont line )code for yellow. I've since started shooting urethane from DuPont, but I like to keep a list of good paint codes in all the popular chemistries if I can.

This 70D is 46180 in DAR acrylic enamel, and Code 263I AE DuPont "Ful-Cryl II". I have not used any Omni line paints.

That is a beautiful John Deere B! Nice job on the restoration. My father, who passed away in 2010, has a B just like yours and I grew up on that tractor, doing plowing, mowing, everything. I plan to restore it just like yours and hope mine looks that good. Thanks for the great picture and the paint codes. Excellent job!

I don't think you can ever go wrong with buying the JD Classic Green, and JD Yellow paints. Yeah, it may cost you more money, but then you know you're going to get the right color and good color durability. I've been told the hardener is well worth the money too.

B-Maniac, That thing is gorgeous!!!! I wish I had more tractors so I could have a chance of one looking that good. I appreciate your help with the codes!
