Restoring a 48 JD B. Have JB medium gloss black for the lights (TY6420). Is that correct, or were lights high gloss? Want to finish tractor as delivered - not artificially shiny.

Most i see are shinny black. I don"t know if thats factor or not. You might find the answer in some of the magazine past issuess of green magfazine or two cylinder or write them. They seem to agree that the inside poart of the axles are painted flat black and the ends aren"t painted. Also the gen is black. I think its a flat black though. Hate to jump in without being to give hyou a direct answer, but it didn"t look like anhybody else was going to pipe in. I"d go with the shinny black. like most say here, its your tractor to do with what ou like. Its no big deal to repaint them in the future if you find out you"re wrong.

Semi-gloss is what all the restoration books and Green Magazine says. Flat on the axle shafts. Or, clean and sand, then a clear coating. As the above note says, do what you like.

i put glossy black on my A, made it look good with the shiny new green paint. if you don't like that, loosen a clamp, remove the wire and paint them a different color.
