Counter weight options for loader tractor

My uncle had if not exactly that same tractor and loader, really close to that same set.

We did manure runs each fall when I was a kid, the 4 neighbors all ran 20-60 beef and had a pile of manure from winter barn. Pretty big piles here in Minnesota. Anyhow that tractor did 90% of the manure loading, as the neighbors ran 4 spreaders continuously hauling.

While me and my cousin would sometimes ride one on each fender, we probably didn’t add a whole lot of weight.

The 35 gallon barrel of concrete on the 3 pt did a lot.

That’s what I would do. 55 gallons might be kinda big, with your wheel weights a 35 gallon might be about right. Maybe a 55 gallon and fill it 3/4 full, leave the top 1/4 lip as a place to store chains, tools, etc.

What’s some counter weight options for my loader tractor? I’ve got an IH 464 with a loader, it has rear wheel weights, the rear tires are not loaded and I don’t plan on loading them. I can’t hardly pick anything up without the back tires spinning out.

The water filled tires does not work in freezing climates. You need the antifreeze solution of chloride or antifreeze which is lighter so not nearly the bang for the buck in weight. And all those counter weights on the rear make for a pain when maneuvering in tight places and even out in the open around just buildings in a yard. Always watching out for it. Dad has an old round bale deal with a big gear on it from a press my brother brought home for scrap. IT works well but is always in the way when loading. I hate it on there and has not been on in years. I do use it occasionally if need be. Anything on the back needs to be short as possible so it is more out of the way. Yes there is more effect the farther it is out the back but the cumbersomeness of it is the trade off. Just tape a couple sticks to your lift arms about 3ft long and then watch how much they are in the way or how many times you break them bumping something before you hang things on the back.

Can you get mounts or modify the existing mounts to put the loader on the larger Massey tractor in the background? Is it an MF165?

I have the same loader on basically the same tractor (484). Mostly used to move round bales. I don't have wheels weights or filled tires to my knowledge (I bought the tractor with current tires on it).

I don't have many issues with it, but I do use a rear spear and grab a bale as a counterweight if I'm stacking many rolls high.

I do have the straight front axle vs the swept back, I'd say that isn't helping you much.

That's a BIG bucket on a relatively light (5000 lbs ) 50 HP tractor, and it's WAY out ahead of the front wheels. What are you trying to lift with it?
I just got it so haven’t lifted much, but yesterday lifted a 6ft tiller and couldn’t reverse in the yard lol, so that’s why I’m wanting some counter weight for whatever I lift with the tractor next time.

We have a 574 with similar loader .Our rear tires are loaded and then a full set of weights out even with the outside of the tire and rim.. then a set on the inside of probably another 500 so probably the tire rim and weights come in at around 1200 per side with about 2400 total weight we lift and drive with our bucket full of dirt /gravel and thew bucket is bigger than yours. Look at snow buckets for the size of ours. It is about waist high and 2 feet deep front to back and 7 feet wide or close to it. IT is as wide as the tire on the outside. If you don't load the tires you will not be lifting much without spinning all thew time. OR you will have to add an awful lot of weight to the rear like close to a ton. You could stack rear weights up on a tube for a center till you have about 1500-2000on there at 150 per piece. unless you go spend the big bucks for the 500poundersa at close to 3>00 per pound. or more. Have not priced them. Just what I saw on an auction. Adding to much weight to the rear axle will stick out so you catch things with the weights. We've had our loader since 1972 with loaded tires from the beginning and the same rims with little rust on them. And on the third set of tires now.
Do you have them loaded with calcium? And do you have any pictures of your wheel weights? I would like to see your setup, I have outside weights but not inside ones.

That is a MF150, but I do have a MF165 sitting in front of it. Think the 165 would be a better fit for it?

Our inside weights are bolted to the same bolts that go through the out side ones. they are also some old Case weights so when dad put them on he drilled holes to match the other weights thus using the same bolts for both in and out weights. The wheel center has to come off to do them or you find half weights and ad them with the wheel on.That is what I do use the half weights on the inside and full circle weights outside. IF you use a plank or board over about 8inches and slide them up that as a ramp the out side ones will almost fit on the bolts.I use a front or back bolt for the start and stagger the ends so one can go on then the next and so on till all 4 bolts are started in the weight then slide it up tight to the center or other weigh. A hoise would be nice but kind of in the way doing it.

This will solve your issue to make it even more handy make a dolly so you can roll it on a concrete pad and move it around.
