Crack in block

My VA has a hairline crack on the bottom side between cylinder sleeves 1 & 2. It had been epoxied before and the epoxy worked loose. The tractor has been in the family for over 50 years and no one can recall any major repairs ever having been done, (I'm afraid that Dad is no longer with us and unable to directly answer any questions). I am planning on trying the epoxy approach again. Has anyone had any experience with this before? Thanks.

If the crack is between the water jacket and the crankcase your block is junk. No matter how you try to repair it the stress along with the temp changes will open it up again. Antifreeze in the oil is a recipe for dissaster. Should be easy to find a different block for a VA.

my father in law has a couple blocks. I'm guessing that your in MN, let me know. We're about 15 miles from the cities.

I have never seen the bottom cracked, but nearly half the VAC's I have been in had cracks at the top between the sleeves. We cut a small notch in them and epoxy them and have never had a problem with one. With the crack at the bottom, it shouldn't be any different. If I understand where you are talking about correctly, there shouldn't be any trouble with water and oil.
