I have a craftsman transit that the model number is 2s 19385 and I need the hold down brass screw for the tripod. I called sears and they act like I am speaking french. I hate to buy a new level and I know the parts are out there cause I just replaced this part about 8 years ago. Anyone got any ideas? thanks

I've been down that road a few times with different makes and models. Getttin parts is another game. Never sold this part before, and I'm the first one to ever call for it. I tell them that could be correct but I've called three times alredy in the past few years. Then I ask Is this your first day on the job there son?

As said before David White might be your best option if Sears service department fall to sleep on you.

Sears' long-time supplier of Craftsman-branded builders and surveyors instruments was C L Berger of Boston. In the mid 1990s the Chicago Steel Tape Company bought what little remained of Berger and closed the Boston factory, moving production to their plant in Illinois. They are still in business today, under the name CSTBerger, and their website shows the builders instruments in their product line today. Most have Boston roots, and if one of the current-production models looks like your Craftsman instrument, CSTBerger will almost certainly have replacement parts available.
