cub cadet 107 hydro

I have a friend who is looking to buy a cub cadet 107 hydo with a 42 inch snow blower to use this winter. What can anybody tell me about them? How do the hydro's work in the cold? What year were they built? How easy is it to change from the mower deck to the snow blower? Any other info would be helpfull. Thank you

I have used hydro garden tractors - Bolens, Lawnboy and Cub Cadet for more than 30 years for snowblower work. Never had a problem with the cold. Found them to be ideal for this work because you could feed the blower as need to keep from choking from too much or cloging from too little. What I will say is that I think a 7 hp tractor is to small for a 42" blower. We had a 12hp on a 38" and traded for an 18hp. Too small a motor and you just start and stop and never get done.

107 is a ten horse tractor, unless some one has slipped a K301 in it then it would have twelve horsepower (K241 & K301 same size block). I Use a hydro drive Wheel Horse for snow blowing, wouldn't use anything but a Hydro on a snow blower. 107 was probably made in the early to mid 70's. I think the Cub cadet is easier to change from snow to grass then the Wheel Horse. My only concern would be if the Cub is a single stage blower, could be a problem if you need to throw snow a distance

Agreed.

The hysdrostat has no problems running in the winter - but if you don't know when the hystran fluid was last changed it woudl be wise to change it immediately after buying it. Water has a habit of condensing inside those cast iron housing and ice doesn't work well in a hydrostat.

A 107 is 10hp (originally). The IH single stage snowblowers are not that great - especially in wet snow.

the rears are built tuff the k241 kohler is a good motor if it a single stage blower it will blow dry snow but it hard to blow wet snow just get a cub snow plow where i live in north east pa snow plows are easy to find are pretty cheap i plow wiht a cub 105 hydro an it plows good

I agree with most of the above postings.

10HP is a bit much for a 42" snowthrower. BUT with a hydro drive you can feed the snowthrower as fast/slow as the motor will handle.

There is a difference between a [b:88da111c18]Snowthrower[/b:88da111c18] and a [b:88da111c18]Snowblower[/b:88da111c18]. Each has their advantages and disadvantages. This came from the IH sevice manual. You can decide which piece of equipment is good for you.
